The tallest statue of Jesus Christ in Poland. The tallest statues of Jesus Christ in the world, which many have not heard of

Here the senior navigator reproached me for depriving you of the opportunity to look at the largest statue of Christ in the world. Sorry, wrong. I'm correcting my mistake.

In general, there are a certain number of sculptures in the world that claim to be the “largest”. Among them are the Buddhas, and the Ten Precepts of the Samantabhadra Bodhisattva (this is the name of the statue), and our motherland with its gigantic dimensions and complex geometry (like the entire Sword triptych, which includes Rear to Front, Warrior The Liberator" and the "Motherland Calls" itself), and the equestrian Genghis Khan, and the Statue of Liberty, and several other lesser-known monuments.

I knew only two statues of Christ and always thought that the largest of them is the statue of Christ the Redeemer in Rio de Janeiro. Since I have never gone there yet, here is someone else's photo and.

Well, the second of the two previously known to me is the Bolivian statue of Christ the Peacemaker (Cristo de la Concordia) in Cochabamba. I haven't been there either, so the photo is not mine again, .

As it turned out, in calculating the height of such structures, not only the growth of the body itself, God forgive me, is taken into account. But also the height of the pedestal, and even in some cases - the height of the barrow, on top of which they are installed. So, in an exemplary summary table, which I very successfully found on the net (the source is registered on the image itself), you can clearly see that even if you do not take into account the postment, the Polish Christ-King is higher than the Brazilian Redeemer.

The craving of men to collect all sorts of "most-most" places probably lies in their distant hunting past. Whoever brought the largest mammoth will be honored, respected, remembered for centuries, and under his feet - stacks of beauties and a small army of descendants in 9 months.

Our senior navigator, apparently, is no exception. He really wanted to see this statue with his own eyes. I myself am susceptible to such “I want more than it hurts”, so I didn’t resist much - I want it, so we’re going. So we deviated a little from the route and stopped at Swiebodzin on the way from Torun to Quedlinburg.

In fact, there is not even a need to drive into the city itself. The monument stands on the outskirts, access to it is free, and at the foot of the statue there is a spacious free parking lot. So this slight deviation from the route did not cause us any particular inconvenience, and it did not delay us much.

The idea of building a monument belongs to the local priest Sylvester Zavadsky. Jesus Christ is the patron saint of the city. The monument was built on private donations, the builders were recruited from the parish of the local church. The construction went on for about two years, the statue is hollow, it reinforced concrete structure on the frame. First, the body body was installed, and then the head with the crown was put in place. The idea - outstretched arms and a general reference to the cross - is similar to the Bolivian and Brazilian statues. The sculpture of Christ the King was opened and solemnly consecrated in 2010.

At night, it is illuminated, so you can probably get very spectacular shots.

The place is very pastoral. Around the monument are fields, houses, poppies. Making a small detour along the local, traditionally not very wide roads is a pleasure. Just a sight!

The total height of the monument is about 52 m, which is higher than the Cristo de la Concordia monument in Cochabamba(40.44 m with a pedestal) and statues of Christ the Redeemer in Rio de Janeiro(39.6 m with pedestal). The height of the statue itself with the crown is 36 m, and 16 m is the height of the stone and earthen hill. The height of the other two statues without plinths is 34.2 m and 30 m. Thus, as of 2010, this statue of Christ is the tallest in the world. The maximum width of the statue (the distance between the fingertips) is about 25 m.

5. "Christ from the Abyss" - Monument to Jesus Christ in Malta:

"Christ from the Abyss"(Italian: Il Cristo degli Abissi) is the well-established name of the statue of Jesus Christ, located at the bottom of the sea, in the bay of San Fruttuoso (Italian: San Fruttuoso, near Genoa, historical area Liguria), in the waters of the Italian Riviera. The statue, about 2.5 meters high, was installed on August 22, 1954 at a depth of 17 meters. In addition, in different parts of the world there are several similar statues (both copies of the original and variations on its theme), also bearing the name "Christ from the Abyss".

An underwater 13-ton concrete sculpture of Christ (Malt. Kristu L-Bahhar) is located at the bottom of the sea near the St. Paul Islands of the Maltese archipelago next to Malta's Marine Park.

The famous underwater Maltese statue of Jesus Christ was made by the famous Maltese sculptor Alfred Camilleri Cauchi. The work on the design and manufacture of an underwater statue of Jesus Christ was estimated at 1,000 Maltese lira and paid for by a committee of Maltese divers led by Raniero Borg. The Diving Committee commissioned Alfred Camilleri Cauchi to carry out this work in celebration of the 1990 visit to Malta for the first time by Pope John Paul II.

Initially, the statue was located at a depth of about 38 meters, but in 2000 it was moved to a new, much shallower - about 10 meters - place. This is due to the fact that the original statue was located next to the existing fish farms, and divers began to complain about the deterioration of water quality and poor visibility in the depths of the sea in this place. In May 2000, the underwater statue of Jesus Christ, which until then had been lying for 10 years at the bottom of the sea, was pulled out by the Maltese with a floating crane, closer to the old Malta-Gozo ferry flooded a year earlier.

13. "Foot washing". The statue is located in front of Dallas Baptist University:

Maundy Thursday, according to the Gospel of John, became the day on which the Lord Jesus washed the feet of the disciples, setting an example of service and humility. Apparently, for this reason, such fables have become entrenched in popular beliefs (superstitions): “If you swim on Clean Thursday before sunrise, then you will be healthy all year, On Clean Thursday you clean the whole house - you will get a lot of joy, On Clean Thursday, count all your money - there will be, Wash the windows and doors with the water in which there is a trifle "...
Dallas Baptist University was originally founded as Decatur Baptist College in 1898. The university is located on top of the hills southwest of Dallas. Dallas (English) Dallas listen)) is a city in the United States, located in northeastern Texas on the Trinity River.
14. Jesus Carrying the Cross
14.1. Jesus Carrying the Cross in Warsaw:

Basilica of the Holy Cross (Kościół Świętego Krzyża) is a church in Warsaw, located on the Krakow Suburb Street, belonging to the Catholic Order of the Lazarists. In front of the church, in 1858, a statue of Jesus Christ carrying a cross was erected, cast in concrete in the workshop of Ferrante Marconi, designed by Andrzej Pruszynski and funded by Andrzej Zamoyski. After several years, cracks appeared on the sculpture. On the pages of the magazine "Vendrovets" appeals were placed for donations for casting sculptures in bronze. In 1887, a mentally ill man damaged the sculpture by tearing off Christ's hand. This accelerated the decision to perform casting in bronze. The statue was accurately reproduced in 1889 in Rome by Pius Velonsky. The monument was installed on November 2 on a new black granite foundation designed by Stefan Schiller, with a gilded inscription Sursum Corda (above the heart).
The concrete statue of Christ was transported to Krushiny and placed in the Lubomirski crypt. It is now located in front of the church of St. Matthew the Apostle.
14.2. Jesus carrying the crossCathedral of St. Francis Xavier (Belarus, Grodno):

The Cathedral of St. Francis Xavier is one of the symbols of Grodno. The church stands on the main city square, towering above all other buildings with two bell towers. Opposite the entrance to the church is a sculptural image of Jesus carrying the cross to Golgotha. The Latin inscription SURSUM CORDA on the pedestal of the sculpture means "let us lift up our hearts" - the initial part of the Christian liturgy.

(Polish Pomnik Chrystusa Króla - lit. Monument to King Christ) - the world's largest statue of Jesus Christ, installed on the southeastern outskirts of the city of Swiebodzin, in the Lubuskie Voivodeship of Poland. The official opening and consecration took place on November 21, 2010.

The total height of the monument is about 52 m, which is higher than the Cristo de la Concordia monument in Cochabamba (40.44 m with a pedestal) and the statue of Christ the Redeemer in Rio de Janeiro (39.6 m with a pedestal). The height of the statue itself with the crown is 36 m, and 16 m is the height of the stone and earthen hill. The height of the other two statues without pedestals is 34.2 m and 30 m. Thus, this statue of Christ is the highest in the world. The maximum width of the statue (the distance between the fingertips) is about 25 m.
For comparison, the total height of the Motherland monument in Volgograd is 85-87 meters, the height of the female figure is 52 meters.

The initiator of the construction of the monument in 2001 was Canon Sylvester Zawadzki, a priest of the Church of Divine Mercy in Swiebodzin.

Construction took about two years. Installation and welding work was carried out by the local company "Tehspav" from Skompe Lubuskie Voivodship. In December 2009, the construction was suspended, as a high-voltage power line passes near the monument. In April 2010, permission was granted and construction resumed. November 6, 2010 was completed installation of the head and crown of the monument.

The hollow monument is made of monolithic reinforced concrete on a steel frame. The mass of the structures is 440 tons. The installation was carried out in stages: first, the body of the statue was installed with a crane, then the shoulder girdle and the head with a crown.

The gilded crown of the statue is 3.5 meters in diameter and about 3 meters high. The head of the monument is 4.5 m high and weighs 15 tons. According to other sources, the head is made of hard plastic, and not of concrete, as originally assumed, due to which its weight has been reduced by a factor of three.

Do you know where the largest sculpture of Jesus Christ is located? No, not in Rio de Janeiro - although this figure has become famous throughout the world, adding to the list of wonders of the world, it takes only an honorable third place. The Bolivian reinforced concrete giant Cristo de la Concordia, having a height of almost 40.5 m, is already closer to the truth, but he also lost his leadership position in 2010, moving into the status of an ex-record holder. And today the highest monument with the image of Jesus is located in Poland, in the small town of Swiebodzin.

An imposing 52-meter statue of Christ the King ( Pomnik Chrystusa Krola), the grand opening of which took place on November 21, 2010, soars, it seems, into the very sky from a high hill in the southeastern part of the city, attracting admiring glances and striking with grandeur and grandeur. The monument is so huge that the figure of Christ in a flowing robe is clearly visible almost anywhere in the city.

It took about two years to erect a monument, but it took a good two five years to start implementing the idea of \u200b\u200bcreating a giant sculpture. And all the bureaucracy: if officials had rushed to sign permits, if the search for funds for the implementation of a bold project had not been delayed, if experts had not questioned the safety of the building and many other “ifs” – then the world’s largest statue of Christ could would show up much sooner.

Private donations became the main source of funding - during the construction period, the necessary amount was collected from the world, resulting in an impressive figure of $ 1.4 million, and the builders were among the volunteers from among the parishioners of the local church. It seemed that every resident of the city was ready to make a contribution to the creation of a unique monument.

Like most other statues of the Savior, embodied in concrete, metal or granite, the sculpture of Christ from Swiebodzin is a cruciform structure - Jesus stretches out his arms, as if opening paternal embrace and blessing his faithful flock. The distance between the two palms is 25 meters, and the weight of the entire reinforced concrete structure is 440 tons. It is clear that the construction of such a colossal structure was associated with considerable risk.

Therefore, it was decided to install the structure in parts: first the torso, then arms outstretched to the sides, and only then the head with a golden crown crowning it. By the way, the magic of numbers, used by the authors of many other outstanding sights, is also embedded in this monument: the height of the figure of Jesus without a crown is exactly 33 meters, which, undoubtedly, symbolizes its length. life path. The record figure of 52 meters is achieved by the entire structure, together with the sparkling golden crown of the Savior and a pedestal made in the form of a hill.

The creator of the grandiose monument, which won the glory of the highest statue of Christ, can be safely considered Sylvester Zavadsky, the initiative pastor of the local Church of Divine Mercy. And although the copyright is reserved for Miroslav Patecki, who prepared the sculpture project, and Tomasz Korano, who embodied the idea, but without the ardent youthful enthusiasm of the 78-year-old priest, the statue of Christ the King in Swiebodzin would hardly have been able to see the light. Today, this sculpture, designed to inspire Christians on the path to faith, has become a symbol of the parish and the city as a whole.
