Samsung j5 prime what kind of camera. Review of the smartphone Samsung Galaxy J5 Prime with an excellent body

In terms of the saturation of the model range, Samsung can be considered the leader in the same way as in terms of sales. Despite the fact that the company's image is created by premium devices like the Galaxy S7, it also has something to show in the low-cost handset segment. One of the latest devices of this level was samsung galaxy J5 Prime, announced in September and released in October 2016. You can buy it now for about $200.

Despite the fact that the device bears the name J5, this is not just an improved version of its predecessor, but a slightly different device. Screen, materials, chipset are the main differences between the models. Other features of the Samsung J5 Prime, its pros and cons, will help determine our review of this smartphone.

We would like to draw your attention to the fact that the J5 Prime is an intermediate smartphone from the J series. We wrote about the 2017 J5, which was introduced later.

In terms of features, the Galaxy J5 Prime is a device located on the border of the budget and mid-price segment.

Design, body materials, dimensions and weight

The smartphone is significantly different in appearance from the simple J5 2016: it is made of a different material, has a smaller size, and looks more expensive than its predecessor. Galaxy J5 Prime dimensions are 141x69 mm, thickness - 8.1 mm, and it weighs 143 grams. These are more than typical dimensions for a 5-inch device. Traditionally for Samsung, there are no complaints about the assembly: the parts fit exactly, there are no gaps, squeaks and backlashes.

The front panel of the smartphone is made of glass with rounded edges, which is new for the budget J-series. The rounding is good, it makes the appearance of the device more interesting than its predecessor. Tactile sensations are increased. Below the display is the familiar oval Home key, on the sides of it are the touch buttons for backtracking and the menu of running applications, they are not backlit. Above the display is a speaker grid, a camera, an LED indicator and a proximity sensor eye.

The back panel is made of metal, but at the bottom and top there are plastic inserts that mask the antennas. The camera lens is inscribed in an almost square window, to the right of it is a flash window, the same in shape, but smaller in size. There is nothing else (except for the Samsung and Duos logos) on the back of the smartphone.

The side frame has no distinct borders and smoothly passes into the back panel (or back panel goes into the frame - here is how to see it). The layout of the elements is not quite ordinary, but this is Samsung, it is not the first time. The power / lock button takes its place on the right, but above it, instead of a volume control swing, there is a slot for the speaker.

The left side is quite loaded with elements: there are 2 sound buttons, and separate slots for SIM cards and flash drives. There is nothing on the top of the device.

And the bottom end is occupied by the MicroUSB port and holes for the microphone, headphone jack.

CPU

The Samsung J5 Prime is the first smartphone based on the new Exynos 7570 chipset. This chip, created using a 14 nm manufacturing process, contains 4 Cortex A53 cores with a frequency of 1.43 GHz. Mali T720 is responsible for graphics processing. Such a tandem of the CPU and GPU for 2016 is quite budgetary, and does not cause delight. However, for basic tasks its power is enough.

What pleases in the new chip is the processor cores: although there are 4 of them, there is no particular difference with some eight-core MT6750 or MT6753. With graphics, everything is ambiguous, the possibilities in terms of 3D processing are the minimum acceptable for 2016. Of course, it will be possible to play, but you can not dream of high settings. And the AnTuTu chipset gives out 35 thousand points, and only about 3 thousand of them are graphics merit (for comparison, Adreno 506 is gaining 12 thousand, and Mali T860 MP2 - 7 thousand).

Memory

The amount of RAM Samsung J5 Prime is 2 GB, it is recruited by LPDDR3 chips. At the start of the system, the OS consumes about 1 GB, which is typical for modern devices. There is enough memory to hold multiple tasks without worrying about crashes.

Built-in memory 16 GB, of which about 9 are available. The slot for a flash drive pleases - it is separate. If last year we attributed the combined slot to the minuses, now it is perceived as something ordinary, but a separate slot seems to be a plus. Support for USB OTG drives is also pleasing.

Battery

The battery capacity is 2400 mAh, which is 700 mAh less than the J5 2016. However, thanks to the energy-efficient processor, there is no reason to blame the smartphone for autonomy. If you play videos from memory, you can count on 10 hours of work, about the same amount you can surf the Internet. With two hours of active screen per day, you can count on 3 days. This is a good performance, comparable to Xiaomi Redmi 3 equipped with a 4100 mAh battery.

cameras

The smartphone has a 1/3" camera with a resolution of 13 MP, apparently the same as the J5 and J7 2016. It is equipped with f / 1.9 optics and LED flash. In daylight, the smartphone takes good pictures, with a good level of detail, a wide (albeit not maximum) dynamic range, natural colors.Indoors, too, everything is decent (better than Xiaomi Redmi Note 3).The camera only gives out in the evening, in the twilight it does not stand out for anything good.

A 5 MP camera is installed on the front, its aperture is f / 2.2 (the J5 had f / 1.9). The second deterioration is the front flash: for the first time in the J5 series, it is not. But both cameras are able to shoot video of tolerable quality in FullHD resolution, with a frame rate of 30 FPS. Selfie camera:

Camera overview:

Screen

The display of the Samsung J5 Prime is a mixed bag. It has a size of 5 inches, a resolution of 1280x720 and is quite standard in this regard. It is interesting that the matrix was created using the technology not AMOLED or IPS, but PLS. This is a compromise, intermediate solution between IPS and TN.

Picture quality is comparable to cheap IPS panels, and better than good TN. For a smartphone of this price category, the matrix is quite good (IPS does not look better in Doogee and Oukitel), and it also has a good margin of brightness (slightly over 400 cd/m2). The display is covered with Gorilla Glass of an unknown generation (probably third), with rounded edges and medium-quality oleophobic coating.

Communications

The smartphone is equipped with two nanoSIM slots, they are independent. All GSM and UMTS/HSPA networks are supported, there are no problems with LTE either. The built-in modem complies with the LTE Cat. 4. Wi-Fi works in 802.11 b/g/n networks. It is a pity that 5 GHz frequencies are not supported. The navigator works with GPS and GLONASS satellites, and it works smartly. The device does not have an infrared port, NFC and other features of more expensive smartphones.

Sensors

The Samsung J5 Prime is equipped with a fingerprint scanner, a first for the J-series. However, the smartphone was clearly deprived of other sensors, and this is a typical Samsung problem. The device has a proximity sensor, accelerometer and orientation sensor. The smartphone has no compass, no gyroscope, no magnetometer. Yes, what is there: even the Samsung J5 Prime was deprived of a banal light sensor.

Sound

The speaker of the smartphone is located unusually, on the left side face. This solution is quite successful, since the hand does not close it. The sound is moderately loud, not creaky, in general, typical for a normal smartphone. You can listen to music in headphones without fear that your ears will wilt: there are basses, the top does not lift up. The device is equipped with an FM radio.

Operating system

The Galaxy J5 Prime is running Android 6 with proprietary GUI touchwiz. In comparison with the flagships, some of the shell's capabilities are cut down. However, this is still the same Samsung, with the usual appearance, a redesigned curtain and support for interchangeable themes. The system works properly, no obvious glitches were found in it.

Peculiarities

For the J-series, the smartphone has become innovative in many ways: a fingerprint scanner and a metal case have appeared. An important advantage in the form of a separate slot remained in place. But the rejection of the front flash (chips of this line) will upset selfie lovers a little.

Pros and cons

  • good design and materials;
  • excellent energy optimization;
  • fast processor cores;
  • good camera;
  • fingerprint scanner;
  • separate microSD slot.

Flaws:

  • no light sensor and auto brightness control;
  • no support for Wi-Fi 5 GHz;
  • weak graphics.

Who is a smartphone for?

Samsung J5 Prime will suit fans of this manufacturer who are looking for an inexpensive and compact smartphone with good autonomy. If the numbers in the characteristics fade into the background, and you need a workhorse, the device will fit perfectly. A nice case makes the smartphone attractive in appearance, which expands the audience. The camera is also noteworthy, for lovers of a quick photo it will be enough.

Our review of the J5 Prime

The Samsung Galaxy J5 Prime is not a successor to the J5 (2016), but is a good alternative to it. The hero of the review has economical hardware, shows good autonomy and has an attractive appearance. It is equipped with a fingerprint scanner, which is a plus, and also takes good pictures. The only downside is the lack of a light sensor and a weak graphics processor.

The competitor of Samsung Galaxy J5 Prime is Xiaomi Mi 3S. It compares favorably with the price, more powerful hardware, 3/32 GB of memory, similar indicators of autonomy, but is inferior in terms of the camera and has a combined second SIM / flash drive slot. Roughly the same can be said about the Meizu M3S. Sony Xperia E5 has about the same camera, screen, but does not have such decent autonomy. In general, the device is quite adequate for its money, given the branded origin.

Overview of available and quality smartphone Xiaomi Redmi Note 3

Update budget smartphone The Samsung Galaxy J5 was a success. Its modified version has a stylish all-metal body with rounded 2.5D glass on top of the screen and, in addition to the “beautiful wrapping”, offers excellent responsiveness in everyday use.

Ergonomics

The location of the controls on the phone case, as well as the menu items of the proprietary TouchWiz shell, are well known to everyone who has ever dealt with Samsung smartphones. According to the latest fashion trends, the Home button turned out to be combined with a fingerprint scanner, and separate slots for SIM + microSD and another SIM card were hidden on the left side of the gadget.

PLS matrix

Instead of the usual SuperAMOLED matrix for most smartphones of the South Korean brand, a PLS screen is installed on board the model. Being a kind of IPS-solutions, it is also characterized by natural color reproduction and wide viewing angles on all fronts. The resolution of the 5-inch screen is 1280x720 pixels. For maximum usability, the display lacks only an auto-brightness sensor, which is why you will need to manually adjust this parameter to current lighting conditions.

Aesthetics

The gadget is more focused on the supporters of the aesthetic component, so its hardware platform does not shine with high performance. The combination of the Exynos 7570 chip and 2 GB of RAM scores about 37 thousand points in the AnTuTu test, which indicates an average level of performance in resource-intensive applications. In fact, the smartphone performs very well in ordinary tasks (surfing the Internet, watching online videos, chatting in social networks, etc.), but in heavy games (for example, Apshalt 8) it slows down as expected.

Shooting

The functionality of the "Home" key, on the sides of which there are two more non-illuminated touch buttons, includes the ability to launch the camera by double-clicking. The J5 Prime offers a 13MP main camera with f/1.9 aperture and a darker 5MP front camera with f/2.2 aperture. During the day, photos are detailed and saturated, but along with the deterioration of shooting conditions, the quality of the footage also deteriorates.

A-brand

The smartphone is suitable for those who are looking for an inexpensive and stylish solution from A-brands. Yes, he can’t handle heavy games, but under normal conditions of use, the Samsung Galaxy J5 Prime 2016 shows itself exclusively on the positive side.

Samsung released new version its low-cost smartphone Samsung Galaxy J5 - Prime (SM-G570F). Unlike the “regular” J5, the novelty boasts a metal body and a fingerprint scanner. But this is not all the "chips" of the new smartphone, let's see what else is interesting about the new Galaxy Jay 5 Prime.

Galaxy J5 Prime design

Smartphone Samsung Galaxy J5 Prime makes a good impression at first sight. The design of the device is very good, and the build quality is excellent. Unlike the basic version of the Galaxy J5 2016, the body of the novelty is mainly made of aluminum. There are two plastic inserts on the top and bottom of the back of the smartphone, which are identical in color to the metal part.
The display of the novelty is slightly rounded on the sides. According to tactile sensations, the device is close to the smartphones of "apple" products. A fingerprint sensor is built into the mechanical central button under the screen, and when it is double-pressed, the camera starts. The rest of the buttons are touch sensitive and not backlit.
Unlike the "regular" Galaxy J5, Prime is not a collapsible smartphone, it has an all-metal body, and, accordingly, a non-removable battery. There are two separate slots on the left side of the case. The first has a tray for a nano-sim card and a microSD memory card, the second has a tray for a separate nano-sim card. So there is no need to sacrifice a memory card for a second SIM card, many Chinese manufacturers should follow the example of the Koreans. Color solutions There are only two cases - black (black) and gold (gold), and in the first case, only the front panel is black, the smartphone case itself is dark blue.

Galaxy J5 display

Samsung Galaxy J5 Prime 2016 equipped with a 5-inch screen with HD resolution of 1280 by 720 pixels. The pixel density is 294 ppi, there is an oleophobic coating. The display matrix - PLS, is an analogue of IPS, developed by Samsung itself.
Although the screen is not Super AMOLED, it leaves only pleasant impressions: good color reproduction and contrast, the picture is juicy, and the viewing angles are just great. Even in the sun, the screen remains quite readable. Unfortunately, there is no automatic brightness control sensor, but there is a special “outdoor” mode in quick access that sets the maximum display brightness to 400 candelas per day. square meter. Also, the screen supports multi-touch for a maximum of 5 touches.

Specifications and performance of the Galaxy J5 Prime

The Galaxy J5 Prime SM-G570F is equipped with the latest Exynos 7570 quad-core SoC and Mali T720 graphics accelerator. The memory of the device is 2GB RAM and 16GB built-in.
The operating system is Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow with the proprietary TouchWiz shell. For the smooth operation of most applications, the performance of a smartphone is quite enough, but you should not count on maximum graphics in the most demanding modern games - after all, the smartphone is not a gaming one. For example, Need for Speed: No Limits at the maximum graphics settings runs quite smoothly and with a good FPS. You can play Asphalt 8 at high settings, but it's not very comfortable, but the rather demanding shooter UNKILLED slows down even with medium graphics.
In performance tests, as expected, the device received rather mediocre ratings. The main test AnTuTu Benchmark 6.1.4 rated the smartphone at 35919 points. GeekBench 4 gave the Galaxy J5 Prime a score of 598 in Single-Core and 1708 in Multi-Core. Note that the new smartphone Galaxy J2 Prime, being the youngest model in the line, showed almost the same results.

Cameras and sound Galaxy J5 Prime

Main samsung camera The Galaxy J5 Prime received a 13-megapixel module with a very good f / 1.9 aperture. Naturally, there is autofocus and LED flash. The photo quality is more than decent. In daylight, pictures are obtained with natural colors and good detail. Even in automatic shooting mode, the camera does not overwhelm the shades of the sky and conveys the depth of colors well.
In low light, things are noticeably worse, first of all, focusing speed drops and noise appears, so it's better to take a few shots and then choose the best one. But, nevertheless, the main camera is a noticeable plus of the smartphone. The front camera of the Samsung Galaxy J 5 Prime is a 5-megapixel wide-angle camera with f / 2.2 aperture. There is nothing remarkable about it; for selfies and video calls, its capabilities are enough “with a head”. Both cameras of the Galaxy J5 Prime can shoot video in Full HD resolution of 1920 by 1080 pixels.
The sound quality of the smartphone pleased. In the headphones, everything is more than excellent, the bass is good, there is enough volume reserve. The volume of the multimedia speaker is also decent.
