Materials and tools Do-it-yourself plasticine Play Doh My experiments and observations Food products. Salt dough for modeling: how to make Play Do clay with your own hands How to make salt play do clay

The plasticine recipe itself is quite simple, very affordable in terms of time and money.

Here is the plasticine recipe. (Since I did not see the original source, I will quote from the letter)

"What we need: 1 glass of flour, 1 glass of water, 0.5 cups of salt, 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil, 6 tablespoons of lemon juice (this is 1 large lemon), food colorings. (dyes for dyeing Easter eggs)

Mix all the ingredients in a bowl, except for the dyes. We divide the resulting dough into several parts (as many as the colors you want to get in the end). Add your dye to each part, mix well. Pour each part separately into a hot pan, and cook over the smallest fire. Vigorously and continuously stirring at the same time. The description said that you need to cook for about 5 minutes - until the mass hardens (to the consistency of dough for dumplings). It took me a minute. Then I just kneaded this lump with a spoon in a pan.
We spread the resulting plasticine on the board, cook the rest of the pieces. Once cool, knead each piece well (like regular dough). It should not stick to your hands (if sticky, plop it back into the pan and cook-knead again).

From the resulting plasticine, you can immediately sculpt. Store in an airtight container.
Plasticine is completely indistinguishable from the store (except that there is no nasty smell), soft, plastic. The whole process took me half an hour."

As you can see, everything is quite simple ... I did everything exactly as described. When poured into the pan, the dough hardened fairly quickly. Five minutes is really a long time.
The colors turned out to be very bright, because. I poured out all the dye that was in the bag.

Now my observations and advice...
1. Pour out the dyes with gloves or your hands must be completely dry! I poured like that, without gloves. The hands were somewhere wet and the dyes painted the palms sooooo well! Half a day went "multi-colored".
2. When the dough is poured into the pan, you need to stir CONTINUOUSLY and ENERGY! Otherwise, the dough will quickly become covered with a crust. In principle, this is not very scary - then I was able to knead everything well and there were no lumps left.
True, the hands from such intensive stirring by the end of cooking were very tired. And the last, fifth lump, it was already difficult to stir (it just burned a little).
When I stirred everything carefully and quickly, the pan did not get dirty at all and was easily rinsed with water. But after the fifth, slightly burnt piece, the pan was briefly filled with water and everything was also easily washed off. So the dishes do not suffer)
3. Plasticine wrinkles well and very easily, rolls into sausages and rolls into balls. What a pleasure I feel when I crush it!!! Such a relaxing therapy!
4. Plasticine, indeed, has practically no smell. (Just a little lemony). And unlike the purchased original plasticine, handmade plasticine adheres well to each other.
5. When you work with plasticine, your hands do not get dirty at all. And if they suddenly get dirty, they are easily washed with just water.

Now about how plasticine behaves in the open air.
After a day of standing on the shelf, the plasticine hardened on top, covered with a whitish coating and slightly decreased in size ("shrank"). Inside continued to be soft. On the third day, all my fungus turned into a "stone". It's still worth it. There is no smell at all. The view is exactly the same as in the photo.
And in a closed sealed container, plasticine, as it was soft, remained so.

It’s just that I didn’t succeed in softening the already hardened home-made plasticine for the second time (Purchased has such an ability)

Modeling dough - this is not only a developing direction, but also an incomparable tactile pleasure, a surge of energy, fantasies on an incredibly pleasant mass. And what material is better to choose for the first acquaintance with this world of sensations?

From this article you will learn:

Mass, paste or dough-plasticine: what to choose?

What will he choose - on a purchased or homemade test?

How to cook an analog of Play-Doh at home?

Once I already wrote about the benefits of modeling for the little ones and shared printable templates ().

Currently, on the shelves of stores you can find various options for substances to get acquainted with modeling. As a rule, they are divided into dough, mass, paste and dough-plasticine. Let's see if they have significant differences. At the expense of the test, everything seems to be clear - its fundamental ones are flour, water and salt.

Famous play doh , positioning itself with plasticine, differs little in composition.

Of course, manufacturers do not reveal the secret of making this magical material, but still there is some information on the official website: “The exact composition of PLAY-DOH plasticine is a trade secret, so we cannot tell you. But we can say that it mainly consists of water, salt and flour. It contains NO peanuts, peanut butter or milk by-products. It CONTAINS wheat."

pros: plastic, soft, the presence of tools and game devices in the collection, it is convenient to store.

Minuses: price, parts can be poorly attached to each other, sometimes crumble.

The composition includes: flour, water, salt and food coloring.

pros: mixes well, plastic, convenient storage, low price.

Minuses: flavor "for an amateur", does not adhere well to paper, there are caustic colors.

Mass for modeling.

In general, the modeling mass has nothing to do with the dough. So be careful! The usual mass for modeling is completely unsuitable for babies: it stretches like chewing gum, products from it quickly harden, so, alas, you won’t be able to tinker and enjoy the process. Is that some manufacturers, codenamed "mass" represent the dough or plastic.

And here it is worth stopping at Masse (paste) for modeling GIOTTO be-be , which is perfect for the first acquaintance with the test!

The composition of the mass, like Play-doh plasticine, is classified. At the same time, manufacturers emphasize that all components of plant origin, the mass has salty taste and tinted with food coloring only. The basis of the mass (paste) is corn starch.

pros: pleasant airy texture, remains soft for a long time, does not crumble, large volume of jars, easy to mix and get many new colors from a minimal set, the aroma is not intrusive, it is stored for a long time, some sets contain tools.

Minuses: in some sets there are caustic colors, high price, not sold everywhere.

And is the purchased dough so wonderful?

Ready-made dough sets are convenient for mom: no need to mess around in the kitchen, choosing the right consistency, especially if you are “not friends” with the dough; get your hands dirty in dyes. Such a dough is stored for a long time outside the refrigerator (up to a year, and sometimes more), which means that it will not need to be thrown away after a couple of days. It should be noted that such a long shelf life is achieved by adding various preservatives and additives to the dough, even the most harmless ones. Yes, and ready-made test kits will cost many times more. Some manufacturers often add appetizing flavors to factory dough, which can be a significant disadvantage - the child will certainly want to taste the dough.

Homemade dough has a neutral smell, it is completely natural, lively, elastic. It gets a lot. It makes you want to dip your hands into this pleasant island of dough on the table, knead it and hold it in your hands for as long as possible! At the same time, it is not always possible to achieve at home desired color mass, and the shelf life will be limited to days. Such a dough must be stored in an airtight package in the refrigerator, which means that before giving the dough to a child, it will need to be warmed up in the hands each time.

Play doh with your own hands. Recipes for homemade dough for modeling.

There are various variations of dough for modeling: based on flour and salt, starch, and even gelatin.

Classic salt dough for modeling without cooking

1 cup flour

0.5 cup salt (preferably "Extra")

0.5 cup water (add food coloring if needed)

1 tbsp vegetable oil

Mix all ingredients and mix well until smooth.

From this test, wonderful figures are obtained that can be dried and painted.

Plastic dough for modeling flour

1 cup flour

2 tsp citric acid

0.5 cups of water

1 tbsp vegetable oil

1 tsp salt

Mix dry ingredients well in a saucepan. Add oil and water (you can dilute the dye in it). Cook until thickened. Transfer the dough to a floured board and knead until the dough does not stick to your hands.

Soft cornstarch dough

Plasticine Play-Doh can be easily made by hand at home. Play-Doh is the perfect entertainment for both kids and adults.

In our article today, we will tell you how to make plasticine with your own hands. We will make Play-Doh from environmentally friendly materials. In addition, our plasticine will be colorful and smell delicious!

Do plasticine Play-Doh we'll be in the kitchen stove!

We want to warn you in advance: Play-Doh clay should be kept away from pets. Due to the specific smell, they can eat it. So be careful.

Now let's move on to making Play-Doh.

Before preparing it, you must have the following ingredients with you: two glasses of flour, two glasses of warm water, one glass of salt, two tablespoons of vegetable oil, one tablespoon of cream of tartar (it is useful for plasticine elasticity), food coloring, and aromatic oils .

After collecting all the components, move on to the next step!

Now you need to mix all the ingredients together in a saucepan. After that, place the pan on a slow fire. And at the same time, do not forget to mix the dough for future plasticine. Stir everything until the mixture resembles mashed potatoes in consistency.

When the plasticine puree begins to separate from the walls of the pan, remove it from the heat. Let the dough cool down.

Let's move on to the next step!

We shift the dough onto a clean board and begin to knead it well. Do this until the dough is completely smooth. When smooth, divide the dough into several pieces and roll into three separate balls.

Make small indentations in the center of each ball and add some food coloring to them. After that, the balls will need to be properly crumpled. It is necessary to make sure that the dye completely saturates each ball.

Plasticine Play-Doh is ready, now you can give it to children's hands!

How to store homemade Play-Dog

If the plasticine begins to dry after a short time, you can add a small amount of water to it and mix well. If the plasticine is too wet, just heat it up, thereby you will get rid of excess moisture. Plasticine is best stored in a sealed container.

Thank you for your attention!

If you have something to say on this topic, we are waiting for your comments! 😉

Raising a child is always a huge expense, so even wealthy families often think about how to save money without losing the quality of goods for the baby.

There are some things that you can't skimp on. But, for example, the famous Play-Doh plasticine, whose positive properties are undeniable, is very expensive, however, according to many housewives, it is successfully prepared by hand at home. At least this option is worth trying at least once, because thanks to your own ingenuity, you can reduce the cost of plasticine dozens of times.

Why not just buy cheaper plasticine?

Play-Doh is probably the most expensive modeling mass on the domestic market, at least in the segment for children's creativity.

This brand has dozens of competitors, and the most famous domestic manufacturers offer plasticine at a price that allows you to buy ten times more mass instead of one set of a famous brand. However, many mothers prefer to pay much more or make an analogue on their own.

The fact is that the original Play-Doh is very different in properties from the plasticine that even young modern parents are accustomed to in childhood. Key Features of this plasticine (and at the same time - and properly prepared homemade mass) are as follows:

Complete safety for the child

Despite the fact that almost all types of baby clay are labeled as safe, only Play-Doh really meets this definition, because most other types usually include engine oil.

The American brand, on the contrary, represents edible plasticine, that is, a child can theoretically even eat it. However, since the mass is not intended for this purpose, a lot of salt is usually added to it, forcing the child to spit out a piece every time, and at the same time - weaning you from pulling anything into your mouth. A homemade recipe may not contain salt - in this case, fashioned products can be eaten.

Most recipes offered online do not contain a single harmful ingredient, and although there are exceptions to this rule, they will not be listed here.

Supreme softness

The classic Play-Doh is not even plasticine, but rather modeling dough.

For those kids who were not lucky enough to mess with the products of a domestic manufacturer, modeling turns into torment due to the need to pre-warm up the hardened mass, however, Play-Doh and its homemade counterparts do not require any preparation - you can sculpt from it right away.

Possibility of long-term saving of results

Despite its softness, such modeling dough holds a complex shape quite well, so you can sculpt many different crafts from it. At the same time, given the composition of the mixture, it is quite possible to bake it in the oven - then the craft will harden and become more durable.

For really complex products, such processing poses a certain risk, since there is a possibility of changing the colors and shape of the figure, but the same molded numbers and letters can always be immortalized.

If we talk about the advantages of the home version over the factory version, then, in addition to significantly reduced financial costs, it is also worth highlighting the possibility of cooking at any time. For all its merits, Play-Doh must be carefully kept from drying out, otherwise it will lose its elasticity, and it will have to be thrown away.

A self-made replacement is not at all so pitiful, because it can be restored for minimal money, not to mention the fact that the range of available colors is almost unlimited.

Ingredients

You can find many different options for preparing Play-Doh on the worldwide web, but in some of them, the authors completely forgot about the main requirement - complete safety for the baby, up to the preservation of edibility.

If we discard all the dubious ingredients, then the list of components will become almost standard, with slight differences, except perhaps in proportions - the density of the resulting mass depends on them.

The main ingredients are plain flour, water and finely ground salt. The proportion on average looks like 2:2:1 in the same order as the listed ingredients.

Always add also vegetable oil for softening (approximately at the rate of one tablespoon of oil for each glass of flour), and almost always - food coloring, unless you plan to create a mass of white.

To increase elasticity, tartar can also be used (a tablespoon is enough for several glasses of mass), and to improve the perception of the result, you can also add citric acid or aromatic oils to taste.

Cooking method

Further, the cooking mechanism looks extremely simple. All of the above ingredients, except for dyes, are mixed until the most homogeneous state - usually such a liquid resembles pancake dough in consistency.

Dye can be added as at this stage, and after the preparation of the mass, however, then it is worth first dividing the entire prepared mixture into several parts, each of which will receive its own color.

If it was decided to stain even at the mixing stage, then dyes of different colors simply interfere with such parts, after which it is time to move on to the next stage - heating.

The mass is poured into a frying pan or pan and placed on the stove, and it is desirable that the heating area is as large as possible, and the mixture is heated evenly. In the process of heating, the mass must be carefully stirred all the time to maintain uniformity, due to the increase in temperature, the water from it begins to evaporate, and the future plasticine begins to thicken.

Do not believe the recipes that indicate exact time heating - it depends on the temperature given out by the stove, the amount of mass and the characteristics of the dishes, that is, it differs. Plasticine is ready when and only when it stops sticking to the walls and bottom, and becomes thick enough to be able to hold its shape. Ideally, compare the consistency of the prepared mixture with real Play-Doh, and when they become identical, it's time to remove the plasticine from the fire.

If the plasticine has not been previously dyed, you need to mix the dye into the already solidified mass. With initially liquid dyes, it is a little easier, and those that are produced in powders must first be brought to a liquid state - the instructions should be on the label.

In the dough, divided into lumps, small indentations are made, where the dye is poured, after which the mass is thoroughly kneaded again. The amount of dye is determined by eye - the more, the brighter the shade is needed. If the shade turned out to be pale, the procedure can be repeated several times in a row.. Again, all-natural ingredients can be used for coloring - say, juice squeezed from vegetables or fruits of the desired shade.

Terms of use and storage

The finished homemade mass is so reminiscent of the real Play-Doh that it copies it even in its main drawback, namely, the fear of fresh air.

In the open air, the mass loses moisture very quickly, as a result of which it is no longer characterized by elasticity, starting to harden and crumble. In this regard, you need to store homemade edible plasticine only in plastic sealed containers with a lid, in extreme cases, tightly wrapped in several layers of cellophane, and remove from there only for the duration of the game.

Experienced parents also point out that storage in the refrigerator somewhat slows down the drying process of the mass - there it can hold out in a usable form for up to three months.

Be that as it may, Play-Doh, neither real nor home-made, is not an eternal material - during the game it still gradually dries out. As a rule, at first the mass can be revived a little - for this you need to add a little water to it and knead thoroughly again. However, such a procedure is not a panacea, because dried bread due to soaking in water will not become fresh again - this happens with modeling dough.

After a few months, it will become impossible to restore the dried mass, and then the mother will have to make plasticine again (unless the baby uses all the supplies before). However, there is nothing complicated in this.

The opposite situation, when plasticine, on the contrary, absorbs excess water from the atmosphere, happens quite rarely, but is also considered correctable by simpler methods.

Typically in this situation just heat it up again- as if it is being prepared anew, due to which it will dry out and again begin to hold its shape.

You will learn more about how to make a Play-Doh analogue at home in the following video.

Hi all!

This is not the first time I buy play dough dough. In the summer I took a whole package of large Play Doh cups for a promotion, there were six of them in a package, and there really was a lot of dough. But the colors are not very different.

But the dough quickly began to dry out, and eventually crumbled. Although it is still in our banks.

Recently, I bought another set, several small Play Do cups, which my daughter is now playing, and I am photographing and writing a review. The dough is really cool, while new. So soft, pleasant to the touch, but their cans are not very convenient to remove, and the cans are hard to close.

This is how this modeling dough looks like, our two sets, large and small jars.

All jars are yellow. Colored caps only. There is an inscription "Play Doh" on each jar.

In addition, I note that the dough smells good. His colors are bright. There are whole sets along with figures and other toys for sculpting with this test.

In general, I advise you this dough anyway, despite the fact that it is a little expensive, but you want your child to have something branded at least once))) My rating is five points, although there are some drawbacks. But every dough dries quickly. In general, the quality of this test is good!
