Deciding on the type of device (phone or smartphone?) is quite simple. If you need a simple and inexpensive device for calls and SMS, it is recommended to stop the choice on the phone. A smartphone is more expensive, but it offers a wide variety of options: games, videos, the Internet, thousands of programs for all occasions. However, its battery life is significantly less than that of a regular phone.

Oppo is one of those Chinese manufacturers whose name has a certain weight with us. Starting to conquer the market with devices such as mp3 and blu-ray players, Oppo eventually got to smartphones, introducing the Find 5 and Find 7, N1 and N3, and finally R5 to the public. And in honor of its decade, the company decided to announce the next generation of its smartphones - Oppo R7 and R7 Plus.

Both devices have a solid metal body with beveled sides, and the front panel is covered with 2.5D protective glass (that is, with about the same curve), which should provide a pleasant feeling from the smartphone in the hand.

Both smartphones will please the user with a FullHD screen, a 64-bit Snapdragon 615 processor, 3 GB of RAM, a 13-megapixel main and an 8-megapixel front camera.

But there are enough differences between the devices. So, the Oppo R7 screen diagonal is 5 inches, the smartphone has touch buttons, its battery capacity is 2320 mAh, and the internal storage has 16 GB.

The R7 Plus also boasts a full 6 inches of screen size, a 4100 mAh battery, on-screen buttons that replaced the touch, as well as 32 GB of free space and support for memory cards. In addition, Plus has a fingerprint scanner located on the back of the device. It is noted that in this generation, the sensor no longer requires a sliding movement of the finger, just touch it, as in smartphones from other manufacturers.

Dimensions R7 and R7 Plus are 143 x 71 x 6.3 mm with a weight of 147 grams and 158.18 x 82.3 x 7.75 mm with a weight of 203 grams, respectively.

Both smartphones are running their own ColorOS 2.1 shell, which, according to the company, has become much smoother. However, it is worth noting that on R7 ColorOS is based on Android KitKat 4.4.4, and on R7 Plus it has already been taken as a basis.

The Oppo R7 should be available in mid-June for $400, while the R7 Plus will have to wait until August for $480.

Oppo today announced the R7 Plus, a new phablet that is the focus of the R lineup.

There's been a lot to like about the Oppo P5, not least the low price, but Friendship has built on what it's already achieved and thrown in a few more features to keep you interested.

The R7 comes with a similar design to the R5, but the minor changes all the more make it feel like a huge step up and you'll notice it takes a few seconds to pick it up.

There's a 5-inch 1080p display on the front that looks bright and displays images really well - top notch considering the R7's pricing.

Along the bottom edge of the front are buttons built into the bezel but no physical keys to get to the app, menu, home and back. These feel misleading to many western users as many are used to the left back and there is no way to change what's around - it's annoying but I'm sure I'd get used to it after a couple of days of use.

On the left edge is the power button, I would have preferred it on the left side, but it is easy to position your middle finger to reach if you are right-handed and left-handed among us will be overjoyed to use your thumb.

The right edge hand holds the volume keys, I found my finger instinctively sitting on the up button, but it was pretty easy to press down and it can get annoying if it does it all the time.

This all-metal uni-body can be either silver or gold and it looks great and doesn't feel too bad in the hand either. The rounded corners on the back mean you won't get itchy sometimes you can get metal and it's surprisingly easy to hold in a vise.

The design also has something to Oppo call 2.5d curves on the display, where the corners curve from the edge of the phone to give a good effect to the sides. Too bad there's metal bouncing around before hitting the edge though - if it was all rounded it would feel a lot more comfortable, and it feels like a design oversight.

The rear camera sits on the left side at the top and offers a 13MP sensor packed with new features such as super-fast autofocus, PDAF face detection and improved anti-shake optimization.

Oppo has also worked on the software to give the camera a super-fast launch feature, the app will open and you'll be ready to take a picture in 0.7 seconds.

ColorOS has improved a lot too with the update to 2.1 meaning a brand new redesign, new looks at key applications and extensive improvements in emergency services bringing them up to 0.3%. This is well below the 3% average Android.

Unfortunately it's only based on Android 4.4 kitkat. I really do not understand, but why Oppo does not include Android 5.1 adapt software, decorating this phones older brother, R7 Plus, and there is currently no update on whether it will be upgraded in the future.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed for the update, but any improvement to ColorOS is a step in the right direction and Oppo seems to know it's a job well done.

Under the hood is a dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 processor clocked at 1.5GHz, accompanied by 3GB of RAM. It's not the most powerful on earth, but in our limited testing time we noticed some big improvements over previous Oppo devices making moving around the phone and opening apps much faster.

We'll be sure to put him right through his steps when we experience his full review.

You're limited to 16GB of storage - a real bearer bug for me - and it's a pity Oppo didn't throw in some extra, but you can always add to it with a microSD that supports up to 128GB.

Battery wise it doesn't look very good either with 2320mAh cells. Maybe an optimization software, will give them some real power, but it sounds pretty quiet for such an Oppo device and pushes it VOOC fast charging feature hard stated that she is worried about battery life.

VOOC means you can charge devices up to 75% in just 30 minutes, a feature not many manufacturers offer, but I'd rather see it partnered with a longer battery life.

Chinese pricing for the Oppo R7 is very competitive this time around 2499 yuan. A direct conversion is around £260 or $400, but it might cost a little more.

If it's just a little more the Oppo R7 would be a steal, but with my time on both phones I prefer the R7 plus smartphone which only costs 500 RMB more. It has a large display and some extra key features such as a fingerprint sensor, so if I had to choose I would go for it.

Overall though the R7 is a great looking, well built phone and if its price is right it will be suitable for those looking for power at a low price.

We said it would be a mid-June release date for Oppo western markets, but there's no hard time setting a date, confirmed just yet.

is a smartphone that was planned to be made without a frame, but nevertheless it received a bezel of a few millimeters. Nevertheless, it is foolish to bypass it on this occasion. 6-inch phablets are quite rare. Especially flagships, especially in a metal shell and with excellent characteristics. We can immediately add that the device has an excellent battery and the ability to quickly charge.

Key features:

- one-piece body made of magnesium-aluminum alloy;

- two SIM cards;

- 6-inch display using AMOLED technology, screen resolution 1080p, density - 367 units, Gorilla Glass 3 protective coating;

- Octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 processor with clock operating frequencies of 1.5 GHz and 1.21 GHz; video chipset Adreno 405;

– 3 GB of RAM;

– 32 GB of built-in memory;

- OS Color 2.1 on top of Android 5.1.1 Lollipop;

– 13 MP main camera with laser autofocus and Sony IMX278 sensor, dual LED flash; HDR modes, "Expert", RAW, "Panorama", "Double exposure" and special mode - 50 MP Ultra HD; the ability to record video in Full HD at a frequency of 30 frames per second;

- front camera 8 megapixel with the ability to record video in Full HD;

- battery capacity of 4100 mAh; VOOC fast charging;

– active noise reduction system;

– the fingerprint sensor is installed on the back.

Main disadvantages:

– weak processor for the premium segment;

– non-removable battery;

– the MicroSD slot can only be used when the second SIM card is removed;

– no NFC chip or FM radio;

- expensive.

The Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 processor is not the kind of chipset you want to see in a premium phone. Especially with frankly weak clock frequencies. 3 GB of RAM and 32 GB of internal memory with the possibility of expansion, of course, good, but general impression not smooth in terms of technical characteristics.

The cameras on the smartphone are good, mainly due to autofocus and laser technologies. The combo drive spoils the impression. There is enough space on the phone where you could easily install an additional module for MicroSD. It is tedious to constantly rearrange the card to the SIM card and back.

Package

Oppo R7 Plus comes in a standard edition box, which is for a phone top level at least strange. Inside we find a charger and a microUSB cable that supports the manufacturer's proprietary VOOC fast charging technology. There is a headset in the box. Headphones with one button can not be called advanced. The company also offers a piece of plastic, which, by misunderstanding, is called a case and in which you can put your phone if you don't want to get it dirty or scratched during transportation. Any cover bought on the market will look much better.

The dimensions of the smartphone itself are as follows: 158 × 82 × 7.8 mm. For reference, the iPhone 6 Plus is the same height, only with a 5.5-inch display. That is, the Chinese manufacturer uses the usable space much more optimally than the American competitor. Add here the same weight of both devices - 192 grams.

Equipment overview

Oppo says that the body of the smartphone was made from a single piece of magnesium-aluminum alloy. The case has gone through 48 polishing processes. The case even has grooves that look nice but collect dirt. There is no practical use for them. The least attractive part is the plastic inserts required for the antennas. They do not fit into the general view and have uneven gaps. It seems that no one was going to polish them, and this is unacceptable for the flagship of the company.

The camera module on the back of the device sits at the top with a dual LED flash next to it. The front element of the lens is recessed into the body, which will save the life of the camera and protect it from scratches. The laser autofocus sits behind a tiny black window on the right. Under the camera lens we also find the fingerprint sensor. Below is a shiny company logo. There is a grid at the very bottom. For a microphone? No. For ventilation and in order to collect dirt. Although it's hard to imagine what can get warm in a phone with such a weak processor.

Flipping the phone over reveals a 6-inch AMOLED screen taking up most of the usable area. The control buttons are located right on the border between it and the free strip, which has the name of the company. On top is the front camera, surrounded by sensors and lights, as well as a speaker.

The glass at the edges is beveled under 2.5D, which ideally should have completely merged the screen with the side walls, but for some reason a few extra millimeters were left.

The power button is on the right edge. But it makes little sense, since the phone is more often unlocked with a fingerprint behind the phone. Above the power button we find a slot where you can insert SIM cards or additional card memory. The tray is made of metal and is very reliable. It is impossible to extract without an injector.

The left side has a paired volume control. All buttons are made of metal and feel good.

At the bottom we find the MicroUSB port, which, in the company's tradition, is turned upside down. There is a microphone next to it.

The top plate houses a 3.5mm headphone jack and a secondary microphone.

Conclusion

The most dual flagship phablet from the premium segment that we have met. It seems like a good metal case and an excellent screen-to-useful space ratio, but the promised frameless technology was not implemented.

It seems like good technical data, but a weak processor and a combo drive. Excellent display, but for some reason with Full HD resolution. Convenient fingerprint sensor, excellent 18 hours of video playback or a little less talk time, but when surfing the Internet, the phone's charge seems to melt. An inefficient processor works to the maximum where it should practically sleep. And this despite the fact that the phone should be a good replacement for the tablet.

As a result, they seem to be good undertakings, but unfinished. And the price is set as for the finished product of a premium level.
