Information about the university

"graduate School Economy" (NRU HSE) was founded in 1992. It is located in Moscow, on Myasnitskaya Street. This is one of the most popular and sought-after universities today.

The profile of this university is various socio-economic and humanitarian sciences, as well as mathematical sciences and informatics. The university has more than 20 departments and faculties. There is also a military department, as well as hostels for students.

In 2012, the Higher School included the Moscow state institute electronics and mathematics, and two additional institutions vocational education. The founder is the Government of Russia. HSE has several branches, namely in the following cities:

  • In Nizhniy Novgorod;
  • In Perm;
  • In St. Petersburg.

HSE in our time

In 2011, the Higher School of Economics was awarded the status of National research university. It should be noted that graduates of this university have the opportunity to receive diplomas from European universities. The university has more than 130 international partners in different countries. Foreign languages in a large volume are taught at any faculties, and at some faculties teaching is conducted entirely in English. In addition to teaching masters, postgraduates and bachelors, the National Research University Higher School of Economics regularly organizes courses for schoolchildren of the most different levels difficulty: from 7 to 11 classes. In these courses, university teachers prepare students for the GIA, the Unified State Examination and the Olympiads. It should also be noted that HSE has seven dormitories. A network of inter-faculty and faculty basic departments has been created in this educational institution. Teaching is conducted only by experienced and highly qualified practitioners from non-profit and commercial enterprises of business and science, as well as government bodies.

The university has many different faculties that train specialists in almost all spheres of life.

We note the main faculties of the Higher School of Economics:

  • economy;
  • business informatics;
  • stories;
  • logistics;
  • management;
  • mathematics;
  • Faculty of Law;
  • applied political science;
  • philology;
  • Faculty of Sociology;
  • Faculty of Philosophy, as well as many other faculties.

I would also like to note that the HSE became one of the few universities in which the military department was left after military reform. To date, the military department trains specialists in seven military training specialties. And since 2011, the High Command of the Ground Forces has been performing the overall management of the military department.

It should be noted that the Higher School of Economics publishes over 20 scientific journals:

  • education issues;
  • the world of Russia;
  • issues of municipal and state administration;
  • foresight;
  • corporate finance;
  • Demoscope Weekly;
  • economic journal;
  • economic sociology.

Since 1994, the formation of the library fund of the university took place. Currently, the total book fund is more than 500 thousand copies. However, electronic subscription is a priority: it includes a variety of databases of domestic and foreign scientific periodicals, newspapers, analytics, encyclopedias and dictionaries, e-books. Concerning periodicals, then almost a complete list of publications on the subject of the university is covered here. Access to the electronic subscription is available from all computers of the university, for students and employees also from the outside.

Since 2000, the university has its own publishing house. And already in 2009 opened its own book store called "BukVyshka", located in Moscow.

  • 2013 "4 International Colleges & Universities", (3rd place)
  • 2012 "4 International Colleges & Universities", (2nd place)
  • 2010 "Webometrics", (2nd place)
  • 2010 RIA NOVOSTI, ranking of universities Russian Federation by average USE score(3rd place)
  • 2008 Journal "Direct Investments", universities in terms of salary of graduates (1st place)
  • 2008 Journal "Direct Investments", the most prestigious and sought-after universities of the Russian Federation (2nd place)
  • 2007 Kommersant, the most popular universities in the Russian Federation (1st place).

Thus, the Higher School of Economics regularly occupies a leading position in various prestigious rankings.

In 2009, a competition was held in Russia among universities that claim to be awarded the title of "national research university". The HSE was one of the few winners and the only university among 14 Russian National Research Universities with a socio-economic profile. It should be noted that research activities are carried out in areas such as history economic doctrines, economic theory, instrumental and mathematical methods in economics, macroeconomics, law, sociology, psychology, education, public administration, political studies and information sciences.

Important research projects have been launched jointly with leading universities: Peking University, Stanford University, Sorbonne, Shanghai University. The university has its own NRU, the Science Foundation and the Center for Fundamental Research, various scientific centers as well as laboratories.

The very first design and training laboratory was established in the spring of 2009 in the Nizhny Novgorod branch, and today more than 10 such laboratories and groups operate at the Higher School of Economics. There are currently twenty research institutes as well as 11 research centers.

Summing up, we can conclude that the Higher School of Economics is undoubtedly one of the most popular universities in Russia. Students from various cities and countries study at this university. Training is conducted in a wide range of specialties. The leading places in various rankings, as well as the activities of the university, testify to the huge popularity and demand for the Higher School of Economics.

The author of the post himself 5 years ago entered the budget in all 3 of the above universities (and eventually chose one), so now he skillfully shares his thoughts on how to prepare for admission to the most prestigious educational institutions in the country.

For convenience, we break these thoughts into 6 important points.

Item 1. Choosing a university.

First of all, you need to understand that entering a prestigious university in Russia does not give you any guarantees of a happy life, a successful career, etc. Moreover, in some cases this can become a problem, because not all employers like highly intelligent, ambitious and enterprising young professionals.

Secondly, forget about the conditional "prestige" and "brand" of the same Moscow State University or MGIMO. Think about what exactly this or that university can give you.

Think about the following points:

  1. Party.

Communicate with students and alumni, read the “Overheard” of a particular university, analyze what students are discussing and what worries them. See if the university has business clubs, business incubators, a KVN team, etc. Think about whether it will be pleasant for you to study here in terms of communication, whether the university supports initiatives that are of interest to you, etc.

  1. Studying programs.

Go to the website of the university and, as far as possible, study what you will have to study in the next 4-5 years, including the list of subjects, exams, tests, timetable, workload, what time classes start, etc. Consider if you pull it and if you need it at all.

  1. Relations and cooperation with foreign universities.

You need to find out about all the connections of the university - employers, foreign partners, internships, cooperation with government bodies, obtaining double diplomas, job fairs, etc. The wider the choice, the more options for you.

  1. Internal resources of the university.

Library, gym, swimming pool, location of buildings, hostels, etc. It will be quite difficult to study if you do not think in advance how to comfortably organize your accommodation.

Point 2. One exam is not enough.

It is clear that universities such as HSE, MGIMO, Moscow State University, Baumanka, St. Petersburg State University enroll the best of the best, the smartest with the highest number of USE scores. This is no secret to anyone.

The problem is that the USE uses (or at least used) a kind of assessment scale, and if you get nervous and make a couple of mistakes, then it can be very expensive for you, i.e. conditionally, instead of 98 points, you get only 85 at the output.

At the same time, you need to learn “excellently” not one, but 3 subjects, which is also far from easy.

What to do?

It is necessary to participate in Olympiads of the city, regional, all-Russian level and Olympiads, which are held by the university itself. it must have if you want to somehow protect yourself from a possible failure in the exam and get 100 points in advance for the subject you need. There are a lot of Olympiads, each university has its own conditions and benefits, so you need to actively monitor the websites of universities and follow the news.

The "easiest" way is to become a prize-winner/winner final stage All-Russian Olympiad for schoolchildren and enter any university in the field without any exams at all (as the author of this post once did).

This method can be conditionally called "simple", because instead of 3 items, you only need to Bot one, but you will have to Bot it for a long time, hard and diligently.

You need to start preparing at least from the 10th grade, and preferably from the 9th, while you will have to prepare almost every day and most of all during the holidays. But persistence will pay off one way or another.

Now everything social networks- these are time killers and vanity fairs, where everyone wants to brag about where he was, what he ate, who he hung out with, etc. People hang out for 3-5 hours to spy on someone else's life, look at funny pictures and read information that they don't need.

In this regard, here is some advice - get out of those social networks that do not carry any useful component. This primarily applies to Instagram and Foursquare. If you can’t overpower yourself, then at least delete not an account, but simply an application from your phone.

Leave only those social networks where you can read any useful information. On Vkontakte, unsubscribe from publics like "Eaglet", "Cheerful Student", etc. Do not clog your brain, concentrate only on the area of your interests.

Item 4. About tutors.

Wherever you go, it makes sense to hire tutors for only 2 subjects: mathematics and Russian. Firstly, in order to be guaranteed to receive a certificate (otherwise you never know, anything happens). Secondly, because, one way or another, upon admission to most specialties, you still need to pass either Russian or mathematics.

In other cases, you only need a library, the Internet and self-discipline.

There is no point in hiring a physics tutor if you yourself cannot solve part C in the exam. It is better to reconsider your views and act where physics is not needed, because then you still won’t pull it.

No point in hiring a tutor English language. The Internet is full of resources, where there is all the grammar, textbooks and dictionaries, you only need self-discipline and desire.

At the institute, no one will chew on the material for you, so learn to figure everything out yourself from the school bench.

In general, the exam is not about brains. You just need to "fill your hand", solve around 100 trial tests and that's it. What you decide will somehow stick in your memory and be remembered on the exam.

Item 5. About personal life.

Forget about her in 11th grade.

Although someone, of course, manages to combine hanging out with friends and active study.

But it is better to concentrate on preparation for admission. You will hang out when you enter and before the first session.

Item 6. If you didn't get in.

Act in absentia and go to work.

Studying at a "prestigious" university means that you will study around the clock. At the exit, you will have a cool diploma, but without work experience, the employer will not need you.

Studying in absentia and working, you will see the current situation in the labor market, and understand what skills and knowledge are in demand now.

It is now 2014, the country is in crisis, and the conditions for employment are becoming tougher.

Story

Creation

The idea of creating the Higher School of Economics - a European-style economic school - was born at the turn of 1980-1990, when it became clear that the existing system of planned economic education in the country does not meet the requirements of the new political and economic situation. Then a group of teachers from the Faculty of Economics of Moscow State University - Evgeny Yasin, Yaroslav Kuzminov, Revold Entov, Oleg Ananyin, Rustem Nureyev - after several attempts to introduce the basics of market economic theory into educational plans existing universities realized the need to build a new economic school, which from the very beginning would be based on the principles of world economic science. This meant providing students with tools for analyzing and forecasting real processes, teaching them how to work with statistics and economic models, and giving them a common language with the world community of professional economists.

The first real attempt to create HSE can be considered alternative departments economic theory organized at the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology (1989-1990) and at the physics and history departments of Moscow State University (1990-1991). Students could choose between courses taught by young teachers and recent graduates of the economics faculty, and Marxist-Leninist political economy. Many of those who later formed the backbone of the SU-HSE went through the school of these departments. The methodology for teaching economic theory in a country with a transitional economy was also worked out there. Starting a new business was facilitated by the support of the Soros Foundation, which provided a one-year grant in 1989.

early years

The starting period was marked by intensive "training of teachers": Revold Entov taught the entire team of teachers - mostly former employees of academic institutions and Moscow State University - a course on the key problems of economic theory, and Grigory Kantorovich updated their knowledge of mathematics. Since 1993, HSE lecturers have been regularly trained at leading European universities, primarily at the University of Rotterdam, whose Faculty of Economics - the largest in Europe - was a partner in the creation of the HSE within the framework of a grant from the European Union.

The SU-HSE principle from the very first day of its existence has been a combination of rigorous, even brutal preparation with discussion and solution of the burning problems of the Russian economy. Leading economists who worked in the government became HSE professors: Evgeny Yasin, Alexander Shokhin, Leonid Vasiliev, Yakov Urinson, Vladimir Kossov, Evgeny Gavrilenkov, Mikhail Kopeikin, as well as scientists who came to the HSE from institutes of the Academy of Sciences and other research centers, also as well as from Moscow State University: Lev Lyubimov, Igor Lipsits, Rustem Nureyev, Oleg Ananin, Leonid Grebnev.

After receiving a diploma and points in the Unified State Examination, I chose the National Research University Higher School of Economics, Faculty of Sociology. It was easy to do. Serve first required documents to the admissions office, then wait for the results of admission. It should be noted that during the submission of documents, I had to wait about an hour, because the queue was huge. But glad that selection committee works quickly and smoothly. Everything was simple: it was indicated where to go, what to take, when to wait in line. Next, a list is posted on the uni...

About HSE

The Higher School of Economics was founded in 1992 in Moscow. In 2009, it received the status of a National Research University. This is the state educational institution. Currently, Ya. I. Kuzminov is the rector of the National Research University Higher School of Economics. Since 1993, the university has been using a two-level (Bologna) education system: bachelor's degree - 4 years, master's degree - 2 years.

Education

The university uses a modular system of education. Academic year divided into 4 modules rather than regular semesters. Such a division allows to distribute the academic load on students more evenly and thereby ensure the constancy of students' efforts throughout the year. The assessment of academic performance consists of several components, i.e. an accumulative system is used, thanks to which the knowledge of students is assessed more objectively.

There is also an annual rating of teachers and students. On the basis of student assessments, ratings are created, according to which a discount of up to 70% of the cost of tuition fees for students receiving education on a paid basis can be calculated. Many HSE students receive several scholarships, the amount of which can reach up to 30,000 rubles.

The main place in the HSE educational process is occupied by economics. At all faculties, students receive knowledge in microeconomics, macroeconomics and institutional economics. They also listen to lectures on applied economic subjects according to the chosen specialization. Each of the faculties has subjects related to social knowledge (philosophy, sociology, logic, psychology, and others). Foreign languages at the HSE also occupy one of the leading places - some subjects are taught in English.

Resources are widely used in the learning process electronic libraries. HSE is subscribed to 39 electronic library databases, which provide access to the full text of 53,000 scientific journals.

The university successfully implements programs of double diplomas and the so-called "cross" education, student exchange programs. HSE has more than 160 foreign partners, which makes it possible for graduates to receive diplomas from various universities in Europe. More than 600 programs are carried out at the Higher School of Economics every year additional education, including business education, second higher education, MBA, EMBA and DBA. In order to develop additional education and professional retraining in 2012, the GASIS Academy and the Moscow Institute of Electronics and Mathematics (MIEM) joined HSE.

Employment

A large number of senior university students receive work experience in their chosen specialty during their student years.

At the time of graduation, about 60% of students already have future work. Six months after graduating from HSE, about 80% of graduates work, and the remaining 20% of students continue to receive education in master's and postgraduate programs directly in Russia or abroad.

According to the statistics of the HSE Center for Internal Monitoring, graduates are employed in such areas as marketing, advertising, PR, business, consulting, insurance, education, accounting, finance, trade, press and journalism, energy, telecommunications, IT.

University structure

The following activities are carried out at the Higher School of Economics:

  • 107 research institutes and centers,
  • 32 design and educational and scientific and educational laboratories,
  • 4 campuses in Moscow, St. Petersburg, Perm, Nizhny Novgorod.

The university is one of the few educational institutions, where, after the military reform, the military department remained. It trains future officers for the units of the missile and ground forces. Students undergo combat, tactical and tactical-special fire training. Information and educational work with students and moral and psychological support are also organized. Practical training is carried out with future officers. HSE students and postgraduates are provided with accommodation in a hostel.

The HSE has a faculty of pre-university training. Schoolchildren of 5-11 grades study at this faculty. Teachers of the National Research University Higher School of Economics prepare them for the Unified State Examination, Olympiads, GIA. In 2013, a lyceum for high school students was opened.

Program "University open to the city"

In 2013, the university launched the "University Open to the City" program. In Moscow's Gorky Park in the summer, university scientists began to give lectures to the public for the first time. Thus, anyone who is interested in the subject can listen to the lecture. In autumn, the lecture hall moved to Moscow museums. Lectures are now held every Thursday, admission is absolutely free and free.

Rating tower

In 2015, the Higher School of Economics joined the group<51-100>in the direction of Development studies (social development studies) of the QS (Quacquarelli Symonds) ranking - one of the most famous international university rankings in the world. In this ranking category, the Higher School of Economics is the only Russian university.
