  • Arrangement of a comfortable climate. This includes work on insulation and insulation, installation of lighting and more.
  • Aesthetic design. Creation unique design using different finishing materials, selection of color design.

For the insulation and arrangement of the balcony, materials should be carefully selected so that they meet all the standards that should be followed. So, you get a really high-quality balcony finish and you, long years you will enjoy your work.

In this article we will tell you about the features of proper insulation of the balcony and loggia. We will describe the principles of how to choose the right material and technology for its installation. We will give recommendations and describe the nuances of installing and caring for the decoration of your balcony.

What types of loggia insulation are

To know the degree of necessary insulation for your balcony and loggia, you should figure out how you will operate it. If you want to feel comfortable and spend time on the loggia in the winter season, then you should carry out warming to the maximum.

Various insulation options: full or partial

If it is enough for you to simply create a buffer zone between the street and the room, then it will be possible to minimally insulate the room. So, you will raise the temperature in the room, but you won’t be able to stay on the balcony for a long time, at a low temperature outside the window.

What is the insulation:

  1. Complete - in this case, the room is completely isolated from the influence of external factors. Warming is carried out both outside and inside.
  2. Partial - thus, they produce insulation either from the outside or from the inside. Such insulation is less efficient, but also much more economical. It is already less comfortable on such a loggia.

Detailed stages of thermal insulation of the loggia

The first and one of the most important moments of warming is right choice double-glazed windows. Glazing of the loggia is unacceptable with the help of one glass; it is necessary to use a double-glazed window with at least double glass.

Step 1: Sealing seams and cracks

We start by sealing the cracks and seams that were formed during the installation of windows, at the joints of the plates, in the corners. For such a procedure, heat-insulating sealants are used, for example, a mounting exchange, it has the necessary properties, is affordable and easy to use.

Step 2: Insulation of the inner surface

The next step is to isolate the inner surface. For such purposes, you can use roofing felt, special insulators, and so on. They are overlapped, while carefully glued to the base.

It is necessary to seal the gaps with foamed polyethylene, polystyrene or sealant and fill polyurethane sealants.

So, you will prevent the ingress of moisture from the outside and prevent the penetration of water to the neighbors when arranging the screed.

Step 3: Insulation with insulation inside the room

Wall, floor and ceiling insulation with thermal insulation materials. Most often, different types of foam are used for this.

Styrofoam is a fragile material, it is necessary to cut the required size with a very sharp tool. For example, a knife.

Styrofoam has the best performance for insulation, analogues that can compare with it have not yet been invented. Polyfoam is a leader in the field of room insulation.

Step 4: Vapor barrier installation

Arrangement of vapor barrier of the loggia. The materials consist of a base on which foil is applied, installation is carried out end-to-end. The joints are closed with aluminum-based adhesive tape.

Step 5: We produce Finishing work

Further, they produce an aesthetic finish on the surface of the walls and ceiling. Thus creating a certain design. The final stage will be the installation of the floor, the screed is poured and the necessary floor covering is installed on it.

Types of materials for finishing loggias

A very wide range of materials with which it is produced interior decoration drives buyers into a dead end. Many varieties of materials, a huge range of colors and different patterns make the choice very difficult. But don't just rely on appearance, you should know whether the material is suitable for the conditions that it will encounter on a balcony or loggia.

We have prepared a list of materials that are suitable for your balcony according to their properties, with their help you can make all your ideas and fantasies come true.

Drywall finishing

Drywall is a unique material, with its help it is possible to create original sinuous shapes, arches, niches and more. It tolerates temperature extremes, is environmentally friendly and durable. It is possible to change the color of paint or wallpaper without disturbing the surface.

Various finishing materials

Plastic panels

Plastic panels - have very good performance, durable, do not fade in the sun, moisture resistant, very easy to install. The downside is the poor tolerance of temperature changes, they can be deformed in such conditions.

Clapboard and other wood materials

Wooden materials, such as lining and plywood. Durable enough, do not deteriorate when exposed to sunlight, do not rot and easily tolerate temperature changes. They are easy to install and do not require special care.

Benefits of siding

Siding is one of the most used wall cladding methods. It is very lightweight and easy to install. It has undeniable positive indicators, moisture resistant, does not burn, immune to temperature changes. Retains its color in direct sunlight.

Stages of interior decoration

Do-it-yourself interior decoration of the balcony is carried out in the following sequence:

  1. Cleaning the surface of the walls from dust, dirt, lagging or loose elements.
  2. The installation of the frame is made in accordance with the material used for finishing.
  3. Installation of your chosen material. Fitting to size and fixing on the frame.
  4. Cleaning, removal of protective coating.

When creating a unique balcony design, insulating it and making it suitable for a comfortable stay there, one should take into account the load on the load-bearing slab of the loggia and balcony. For hinged balconies, the approximate load threshold per slab is about 1.2 tons. For embedded about two tons.

Scheme of insulation and finishing of the loggia

Install the crate on top of thermal and steam insulation, so they will perform their functions better. And in the space between the finishing material and the insulation, a small greenhouse is formed, which will partially add heat to the room.

Work on interior decoration and insulation of the balcony is a very important step, which should be approached with particular seriousness. When insulating, you should clearly understand how you want to use your balcony room. If as a warehouse for vegetables or unnecessary trash, then minimal insulation from moisture and the ingress of wind and snow is sufficient.

If you are going to make an extension of your room, work area or fence playground for children, then the issue of warming should be approached more seriously.

A wide range of different finishing materials allows you to implement any of your ideas, create an original and memorable interior. To choose the right material, you should be informed and know the main indicators of each type that can be found on the market. Properly selected finishing material in combination with insulation will help create coziness and comfort on your balcony.

The indoor balcony can be used in a variety of ways. Someone is organizing a winter garden on it.
For some, this room serves as a rest room. The decoration of the balcony, external attractiveness also depends on how exactly the loggia or balcony will be used.

Exterior decoration of the loggia is needed in order to create a rather attractive appearance of this room. Also, such work can significantly reduce heat loss, since in the course of external finishing work, this part of the dwelling is insulated.
External finishing work on a balcony or loggia can be performed:

  • Siding.
  • Plastic.
  • Decking.

Sheathing loggia siding

Siding is a practical and durable finishing material. It applies specifically to .
There are certain advantages of such material. It is resistant to temperature changes and is not able to pass moisture.
Also, the material is considered heat-resistant and, together with a heat insulator, can create a constant temperature regime in the room.
Siding has a large number of colors and textures. Also, its surface may vary.
During installation, such a finishing material may cause some difficulties, but this is only if certain instructions for fastening are not followed. The calculation of the exact amount of material that may be needed for finishing work should be carried out only under the supervision of a professional.
You can calculate the amount of siding yourself, but for this you will need to make the correct measurements of each plane of the balcony.

Advice. You need to buy material in the required quantity, which is increased by 10-20%. This will allow you to have such a finishing material with a margin for an unforeseen event (breakage of siding and much more).

There are two types of siding:

  • Wood.
  • Vinyl.

Wooden, for outdoor work, is used quite rarely, as it is able to change its structure under the influence of any climatic and weather phenomena. It absorbs moisture well and is able to be exposed to insects.
Also, do not forget that wood ignites very well, even despite its high-quality processing with special means.
More popular in outdoor decorating is vinyl siding. It is non-toxic and fireproof.
Also, its color does not fade in direct sunlight. This type does not contribute to the development of fungus on the surface and has a rather low coefficient of anti-corrosion.

The process of finishing the balcony with siding

To qualitatively carry out exterior finishing work on the lining of the balcony, you need to use:

  • Wooden bars.
  • Metal carcass.
  • Screwdriver.
  • Drill.
  • Self-tapping screws.
  • Mounting foam.
  • OSB sheets.
  • Level and other auxiliary tools.

The first thing to do is the crate. Subsequently, strips of such a finishing material will be attached to it.
If the crate is metal, then its elements are fastened together by welding.
If the crate is wooden, then it is fastened with self-tapping screws and large screws:

Attention. The most important thing in the process of finishing the siding of a balcony or loggia is correct installation starting strip.

  • Subsequent strips of material will depart from it and the quality of the work performed will depend on how evenly it is located. An auxiliary profile is attached to such a strip, which is able to correct the position of the siding strips that are overlapped.
  • The first strip is laid in the starting strip and fixed in it with self-tapping screws. Such outdoor work cannot be carried out without a safety belt, especially if they are carried out "from the street".
  • Each strip must be level checked before fixing. In order for the external one to be of better quality, one must take into account the fact that siding is a rather capricious material that can expand in the warm season.

Advice. This must be taken into account without fail when the installation of siding is carried out with an overlap.

The desired size of the panels is adjusted with a hacksaw or special knife. During the installation of such a finishing material, it will be possible to immediately carry out insulation work.

  • For this, OSB sheets are attached to the crate. Only then are siding strips mounted on them.
From the inside, such material is closed with insulation, it is polystyrene foam or polyurethane foam. OSB or plywood sheets are also laid on top of it, and only then are internal finishing works carried out.

External cladding of a balcony or loggia with plastic

To date, there are a variety of materials for the exterior decoration of the balcony, but plastic, or rather, plastic lining, is very popular. It gives such a room a neat appearance from the outside.
The photo shows an example of such a finish.

Why do most people prefer this particular finishing material?
Everything happens for the reason that plastic is very practical and durable. It is quite easy to care for, since you will not need to use special products to clean it.
Do not forget that plastic:

  • Moisture resistant.
  • Heat resistant.
  • Unaffected by all sorts of weather conditions.
  • Does not deform under direct sunlight.
  • Practically does not burn out.

The last point can be attributed to a certain type of such a finishing material, which has high quality indicators. The price for it will be quite high, but the service life will also be long.
So:

  • Plastic can be used in conjunction with insulation and this will make it possible to create a certain temperature regime on the balcony, which can be maintained all year round, since plastic does not let air through.
  • Plastic is very easy to install and the entire structure made with it will be light, which will not give an additional load on the balcony base plate.
  • In addition to all the listed advantages of such a finishing material, there are a number of disadvantages that practically do not affect the choice of material for most people.

These include the fragility of the material itself and the rather rapid loss of presentation. Plastic very quickly loses its color under the influence of ultraviolet light, but this only applies to cheaper types of this finishing material.

The process of sheathing a balcony with plastic clapboard

In order to qualitatively finish the balcony with a plastic clapboard, it will be necessary to first build a crate. It is made either from wood or metal.
you can do it yourself, which will save a lot of money.

Advice. It is best to use only a metal crate on the balcony. It is not subjected to deformation under the influence of moisture and does not allow the development of fungal diseases on the surface of such material.

For work you will need:

  • level or rule.
  • Screwdriver.
  • Drill.
  • Self-tapping screws.
  • Dowel.
  • Mounting foam.
  • Construction stapler.
  • Plastic lining.
  • Guides and auxiliary profiles.
  • Stationery knife or hacksaw.
  • Ruler.

If the crate is made of metal, then its elements are fastened together by welding. If the crate is made of wood, then the structure is fastened with wood screws and attached to the walls with dowels.
For high-quality crates, it will be necessary to correctly measure all distances on the balcony. After that, the structure is assembled in place to make it easier to fit all the allowable dimensions of the elements.
The first sheet of plastic lining is attached to the starting guide, which is attached to the crate using self-tapping screws or a construction stapler. It will need to be aligned, according to the level or rule.
It is the first strip that will set the position for all subsequent ones and the quality of the finishing work will depend on it.

Advice. All finishing work on the exterior of the balcony is best done even before it is glazed. This will allow you to freely act and fasten the finishing material.

Between themselves, sheets of plastic lining are fastened with the help of special locks, which are located at the end of each part of this type. If the size needs to be adjusted, then the plastic can be cut off without problems with a clerical knife or a hacksaw.
In order for the outer corners of the balcony or loggia to be also neat, it is necessary to use special plastic corners, which are also attached to the crate, but only after the installation of all plastic strips is completed. They are considered the final stage of finishing work.

Sheathing the balcony with corrugated board

The profiled flooring has good characteristics. It is durable and practical.
Also, it is not exposed to climatic conditions and has a rather attractive appearance. Balcony or loggia will look unusual.
The only drawback of such a finishing material is that it is able to heat up very quickly under the influence of direct sunlight.
Installation of corrugated board is very simple and you can do it yourself. There is a certain instruction, following which you can end up with a quality finish.
Installation of sheets is also carried out on a pre-made crate. Only in this case, it should only be metal in order to withstand the additional load.
Also, do not forget about the affordable cost of such a finishing material, which will last a very long period of time. The professional flooring is various in the coloring that gives the chance to create unique registration of external walls of the balcony room.

Rain, snow, wind, ultraviolet rays - all this can harm the design of the balcony. With finishing materials, it is reduced to zero. In addition, some materials have heat-saving properties.

Exterior finish balcony siding serves as an additional level of protection for the base, which consists of slabs made of concrete. The material protects concrete from the harmful effects of moisture, preventing the destruction and corrosion of reinforcement. And this is a big plus, since the terms of use have already been increased and it will not be necessary to make major repairs.

The loggia, which is built of a remote type, is not complete without finishing with materials from the outside.

Balcony Safety

Given the fact that almost all balcony cladding work is carried out at height, you need to have equipment to safely carry out this work. This includes climbing equipment and devices that will help you work in hard-to-reach places, eliminating the risk and threat to life. Following from this, it is recommended to hire such workers who have this equipment and experience. Usually, such a question is addressed to specialized firms involved in finishing the balcony.

If your decision is to act on your own, due to various circumstances, then it is strongly recommended to follow all safety rules, especially if the work takes place on a high floor of a building. Be careful, wrong actions can lead to sad consequences. Prudence and care are needed when devices such as a platform, stepladders are operated. It is best to have an assistant who can help and insure you when finishing.

Following safety precautions, the entire area of \u200b\u200bthe place of work must be fenced off. It can be done different ways. For example, signal tape, twine to which flasks or red rags are tied. They protect the place from other people for their own safety. It is possible to do the exterior decoration of the loggia without using all the equipment, when there is a parapet from the crate available, without being outside the balcony.

Materials and their properties

You can finish the balcony or loggia on your own using different types materials. When it comes to choosing a material, shape and external factors must be taken into account. These are, of course, temperature fluctuations, varying degrees of precipitation, wind intensity and the influence of the sun, that is, ultraviolet radiation. When choosing the color of the finish, the design of the building is taken into account.

What materials can be used to decorate a loggia or balcony? We would like to point out the following:

  • plastic, PVC panels;
  • siding of two compositions: vinyl, aluminum;
  • corrugated board.

Plastic panels for the balcony

Plastic lining is an inexpensive and economical option for cladding a balcony. The advantages of this material:

  1. The price of cladding is affordable for everyone.

  1. Dismantle the old balcony cladding.
  2. The frame made of metal or wood must be fixed on the surface of the balcony. At the same time, insulation work can be carried out on the outside of the loggia and protection against wind and water can be installed.
  3. Fasteners for plastic lining.

Vinyl balcony siding

Many experts believe that this material has an advantage in finishing a balcony in multi-storey buildings. Here are some reasons to prove it:

Vinyl siding in various colors - photo.

  • external shape and attractiveness remains for a long time. The material does not corrode and does not give in to deformation during finishing;
  • there is no need to carry out repair work - if you perform a high-quality initial installation, care will consist in a banal annual washing with water using detergents;
  • is an environmentally friendly product;
  • low percentage of flammability;
  • the material does not crack, does not exfoliate and does not peel off.
  • heat-resistant material that can withstand from +50 to -50 ˚C;
  • no electrical conductivity.

If we talk about covering with vinyl siding, then you need to have certain skills and knowledge. The main thing now is to act in accordance with the following instructions:

  2. Siding equipment. The first thing to start with is to install the first strip, which will be located at the very bottom of the trim. Because the siding is fastened from the bottom up. This strip can be fixed to the crate using self-tapping screws.
  3. We insert the next strip with the lower part and connect it to the lock hole of the original panel. And we attach the upper part to the crate using the same self-tapping screws. The density of fastening should not be strong. Similarly, to carry out the process of fastening with other panels.

It must also be said that each self-tapping screw should be screwed exactly in the center of the perforated hole. The distance between panel joints should be approximately 0.5 mm. This is important because, due to incorrect installation, the material will be deformed when natural expansion and contraction occurs due to weather conditions.

Metal balcony siding

Metal siding is considered one of the most used materials to finish the balcony and loggia in a multi-storey building. Pay attention to the advantages of this material:

  • the material is durable, with normal operation it will last up to 50 years;
  • do not ignite;

Using corrugated board for a balcony

It's another one good stuff, with the help of which the decoration of the open balcony is carried out. It is made of galvanized corrugated steel. The profiled sheet has various colors, any size, a wavy, uneven structure, due to which the material is quite rigid.

Here are the advantages of the material:

  • easy installation. If you use profiled sheets when finishing the facade or roof, then various uneven parts of the surface are compensated. The length of the profile sheet can even reach 12 m. This simplifies installation, since the material is universal;
  • protected from corrosion. Galvanized steel, from which the profile sheet is made, has a polymer coating that reliably protects the material from chemical and physical phenomena. Due to this, the corrugated board has a long service life;
  • a wide range of colors. Since the protective coating is made of polymers, the material can have almost any color;
  • light weight. If use roofing sheeting, then for mounting you can use rails with a small section, making the walls not so thick. The total mass of the balcony, and, as a result, the cost of finishing it, is significantly lower.

Remember! A grinder with an abrasive wheel is able to burn out and destroy all layers of the material. Therefore, to cut it, use metal scissors. This also applies to the removal of steel siding.

It is important to finish the balcony by following the instructions below:

  1. On the balcony we make a frame made of metal or wood, which can be filled with a sheet of insulation. You need to fasten the profiles parallel to the wall of the house. Next, we fix the corrugated board. Additional protection against corrosion of the material - primer and special protective paint. We use an antiseptic to treat a wooden crate.
  2. To fix the sheet, special self-tapping screws with a rubber gasket are used.
  3. You need to fasten the screws in a wave that is parallel to the plate. We install a special bar at the junction of the material. Special profiles are placed at the corners of the installation.

The process of finishing the balcony with corrugated board

So, let's consider what tools are needed for finishing and the main stages of the process.

Therefore, most often for the production of exterior decoration of buildings, including their balcony part, specialized companies are hired that have trained workers and the necessary equipment.

In the case of its independent implementation, strict compliance with safety requirements is necessary, especially when it comes to balconies located on the upper floors of buildings. Extreme care must also be taken when using various retaining devices such as scaffolds and ladders. In this case, you will definitely need an assistant.

According to safety regulations before finishing necessary fencing the construction site using a signal tape or twine with flags or red rags tied to it. Self-finishing the outer part of the balcony without the use of special equipment is allowed only in cases where it has a lattice parapet that allows you to trim without leaving this room.

Material selection

Do-it-yourself exterior decoration of the balcony is carried out before or simultaneously with its glazing using materials different kind. At the same time, when choosing a material for exterior decoration, first of all, it is necessary to take into account the features of its future operation. It must be resistant to external influences, including temperature changes, precipitation of varying intensity, wind loads and ultraviolet radiation. In addition, his color solution should be consistent with the overall design of the building.

How can I sheathe a balcony outside? The most commonly used for this purpose are:

  • Plastic (PVC panels).
  • Aluminum and vinyl siding.

Other materials are used for the interior lining. on the balcony and loggia is described here.

And about their use on the balcony can be found in a separate material on the site. Advantages and features of installation.

Plastic

Panels made of high-strength plastic, otherwise called plastic (vinyl) lining, can be called one of the most inexpensive and economical options for landscaping a balcony. The benefits of this material include:

  • Affordable cost.
  • external attraction.
  • Ease of installation, including when finishing high-rise buildings.
  • Minimum installation time.

The process of lining a balcony with vinyl clapboard is extremely simple, so that anyone who does not have the appropriate experience and training can handle it. It includes several main steps:

  1. Removing the old upholstery.
  2. Fixing a frame made of a metal (wooden) profile to the surface to be finished. Simultaneously with this work, if necessary, the outer surface of the balcony can be insulated, as well as wind and hydroprotection of the building.
  3. Set and fastening of plastic panels.

Vinyl siding

According to many experts, this option is the most preferable for exterior decoration of balconies of residential buildings for many reasons. It:

  • Preservation of external attractiveness for a long time (it is not subject to corrosion and deformation during operation).
  • Ease of care (it is little susceptible to dirt and dust).
  • Environmental friendliness.
  • Fire safety, low flammability.
  • A large number of color solutions.

As for, this process requires certain skills and knowledge. The sequence of actions in this case is as follows:

  1. Lathing installation. Its elements should be perpendicular to the direction of the siding panels. It can be made from wood or metal. Please note that if the surface to which the siding will be attached is perfectly flat, then it can be installed without using the crate.
  2. Panel installation. Most important point this operation is the attachment of the first strip, which should be located at the very bottom of the structure. (The siding is attached in the direction from the bottom up). This panel is fixed to the crate with self-tapping screws.
  3. The subsequent panel is inserted with the lower edge into the lock connection of the starting strip. Its upper edge is also attached to the frame with self-tapping screws. Keep in mind that the fastening of these elements should not be too tight. Fastening of subsequent panels is carried out in a similar way.

An important point: When installing siding, self-tapping screws must be screwed strictly in the center of its perforated holes. Between the joints of the panels there should be a gap of about 0.5 mm. This will avoid deformation of the material during its natural expansion and contraction in all-weather operation.

metal siding

Metal siding is one of the most promising materials used in the exterior decoration of balconies and loggias in apartment buildings. It has a lot of advantages, including:

  • Low price.
  • Ergonomic and attractive design.
  • Resistant to external influences. Its top layer is not paint, but a polymer coating that does not require periodic updating and tinting.
  • Resistance to temperature extremes, fire safety and good resistance to bactericidal and fungal attack.

Installing metal siding is similar to installing vinyl siding.

Decking or corrugated sheet, which is galvanized corrugated steel, is another good material for carrying out work on the exterior of a balcony. Sheets of corrugated board can have a different color and size and, due to their uneven, wavy structure, are characterized by increased rigidity. Its advantages:

Types of corrugated board
  • Light weight.
  • Excellent physical and technical characteristics, including anti-corrosion properties, high tightness and fire resistance.
  • Long service life.
  • Aesthetic design
  • Possibility to choose different color variations, etc.

The installation of corrugated board sheets is also quite simple, so it can be used to do the exterior decoration of the balcony with your own hands.

Important: When working with a profiled sheet, you cannot use a grinder with an abrasive wheel to cut it, as this can lead to burning out and destruction of all layers of the material. The same requirements must be observed when installing metal siding.

Finishing the balcony outside with a profiled sheet is as follows:

  1. Manufactured from wood or metal carcass, which can be additionally filled with insulation sheets. In this case, the profiles are fastened parallel to the walls of the building. Then profiled sheets are attached to it. To provide additional protection against corrosion, the metal profile of the frame is coated with a primer and painted with a special protective paint. The wooden crate must also be treated with an antiseptic.
  2. Fixation of the material is carried out from one of the corners and continues in the selected direction with the help of self-tapping screws equipped with special rubber gaskets.
  3. Self-tapping screws are fastened in waves, parallel to the plate. At the place where the material joins the base, special strips are installed. The corners of the structure are also closed with a special profile.

Tools for exterior finishing and its main stages

Before the start of the external finishing of the balcony, it is necessary to prepare the appropriate inventory and tools with which the finishing work will be carried out. It includes:

  • Roulette and building level.
