Facing panels for the bathroom. Types of panels for walls in the bathroom. The choice of material for the crate

Ceramic tiles have long been considered the ideal option for decorating bathroom walls. It meets all hygiene requirements, withstands high humidity and temperature fluctuations without any problems, is resistant to damage, lends itself well to washing and antiseptic treatment. In addition, ceramic tiles are durable, this will allow you to not think about the need for repairs in the bathroom for a long time.

Long time at ceramic tiles there were no worthy competitors, but in last years that appeared on sale plastic panels have become an alternative solution for bathroom renovation.

Why is PVC so popular?

Unlike tiles, PVC bath panels are much cheaper and easy to install even for non-professionals. PVC plastic panels for the bathroom can perfectly hide the unevenness of the walls, which would be difficult if ceramic tiles were used.

Benefits of PVC bathroom panels:

  • easy installation;
  • beautiful appearance, decorative;
  • are easily installed on any surface, do not require wall alignment and labor-intensive preliminary work;
  • the level of sound insulation of the room increases;
  • easily tolerate temperature changes, stable in conditions high temperature air;
  • high resistance to moisture makes it possible to widely use PVC sheets for repairing walls and ceilings in the bathroom;
  • the use of PVC sheet material for the bathroom makes it easy to hide electrical wiring, water and sewer pipes, and mask the flaws of the room;
  • high environmental safety and fire safety make it possible to install PVC panels in residential premises;
  • relatively low price compared to ceramic tiles.

PVC cladding has excellent moisture resistance, the material does not collapse in an environment with high humidity and does not allow moisture to penetrate the panels, thanks to which the walls of the bathroom will not be covered with mold, fungus will not start.

The undoubted advantages of PVC sheets can be considered their low weight, as well as durability (panels good quality last at least 40 years).

PVC sheet panels for the bathroom, as seen in the photo, can be installed vertically, horizontally, and even at an angle, which will allow you to show your imagination, creating a unique bathroom design.

Plastic sheet cladding is available in two finishes: matte and glossy. To make the coating glossy, a special compound is applied to the pvc panels. Glossy coatings reflect light better, so in a small bathroom space the effect of increasing space will be created. But on a matte surface, stains from splashes of water, which cannot be avoided in the bathroom, will be less noticeable. Which cover to choose - the choice is yours.

Such material is also divided according to the method of drawing a picture:

  • Printed - a decorative color coating is applied with a special paint using a shaft on which a pattern is applied. The shaft is rolled over the surface of the panel, and the pattern is imprinted on the plastic;
  • Film - the pattern is transferred to the panel using a special film on which it is pre-applied. The film is applied to the pvc panel, when exposed to high temperature, the pattern transfers to the panel, and the film is then removed.

According to the method of manufacturing, the panels are divided into suture and seamless. Seam panels have special locks with which they are connected into a single sheet. In the assembled canvas, you can see the gap between adjacent PVC panels. In a seamless version, the panels fit snugly together, creating the impression of a single solid canvas.

Sheet material dimensions

Standard PVC sizes sheets are considered to be 2700 mm long, 250 mm wide, 10 mm thick, but they are also available in other parameters:

  • along the length of 2600, 3000 and 6000 mm;
  • in width 100, 300 mm, 335, 375 and 500 mm;
  • thickness from 5 to 10 mm.

Panel material for the bathroom is divided in size into slatted, tiled (they are squares used to decorate the ceiling, as well as to create interesting patterns on the walls), as well as sheet, usually having dimensions of 1220x2440x3mm. Sheet panels allow you to quickly finish the ceiling and walls of the bathroom.

The texture of the panels can be made under ceramic tiles, natural stone, brickwork, geometric patterns or floral ornaments, wood effect, a wide selection of plain pvc panels in various colors. Choice colors and drawing - to your taste. Usually the bathroom has a fairly modest area, so designers recommend choosing light colors pleasing to the eye. good decision there will be decoration of the walls in the color of plumbing.

If you would like to decorate your bathroom tiles, but you can’t do it, PVC panels for bathroom tiles will be a good replacement. At first glance, the panels under the tiles are indistinguishable from the tiles themselves. Even plastic panels with a frieze are produced, which have bulges, similar to tiles, which will allow you to make an inexpensive and stylish repair using PVC panels for the bathroom, as in the photo.

Manufacturers offer a wide selection of PVC sheets that differ in thickness, strength, drawing method, and colors. Before you settle on any option, read the recommendations of experts on choosing PVC material for the bathroom. This issue must be approached seriously, since the appearance of your bathroom, as well as the durability of the repair, will depend on their quality.

How to choose pvc sheets for bathroom

First of all, evaluate the number of stiffeners in the plastic. The strength of the material depends on this. The more stiffeners, the more durable and reliable the material will be. Please note that the stiffeners are not damaged during transport or storage.

Try to choose plastic with a thickness of at least 10 mm, for walls in the bathroom it is necessary that it be strong enough so that it does not break when it accidentally hits the wall, so that it is impossible to accidentally pierce it with some sharp object.

On the front side of the product there should be no scratches, chips, coloring should not have violations. Make sure that the surface of the PVC sheet is the same color or with the same pattern from the same batch, so that there are no differences in color saturation or pattern execution.

Be sure to check if stiffeners are visible on the front side. To do this, look at the front side at an acute angle. You should see a smooth, rough surface. Also check the back side of the panels to make sure there are no impurities on it. The absence of foreign inclusions means that the panels are made from primary raw materials, which means they are of high quality.

If any inclusions are visible on the back of the panels, the PVC sheets are made from recycled materials, which means lower quality. There should be no chips, cracks, bumps or other flaws on the edges of the panels. Also, pay attention to the price. A cheap product will definitely not be of high quality, but in our time a high price is not a guarantee of a good product. Therefore, try to buy PVC material for the bathroom from trusted sellers who guarantee a quality product.

Using pvc bathroom panels

Use for renovations in new buildings, as new house during the first few years, it may shrink, which leads to deformation of the walls. In the case of using plastic sheets, these wall defects will not be noticeable.

If you need to do repairs yourself, without resorting to the help of specialists, since the installation of PVC panels, unlike laying ceramic tiles, is available even to non-professionals.

Your bathroom has uneven walls that are impossible or too difficult to level and need to hide plumbing while still being able to access it in the event of sudden pipe leaks or sewer repairs.

Conclusion

The material has a chance to displace all other cheap types of plastic finishes for the bathroom. In appearance, weight and price, it is clearly ahead of drywall and tiles. In the future, it is possible that PVC will completely replace the more environmentally friendly and resistant material - drywall.

Popularity wall panels, which are used to finish various surfaces at, is not accidental. • Chemical composition. The polymers from which plastic elements are made must consist of bound chlorides and ethylene. These substances do not emit substances harmful to human life either during operation or during combustion. In addition, they have self-extinguishing properties - after the disappearance of an open flame, plastic stops smoldering.
  • Strength of wall panels PVC for the bathroom. The more stiffeners there are in the lining, the stronger it is. Good decor is always made from quality raw materials, so inspect it from all sides - the material should not be made from recycled or industrial waste.
  • Color uniformity. The texture and color background of polymer panels should be uniform - no blurry patterns, non-painting, color differences are not allowed.
  • Products proper level should be purchased from specialized stores. If you are planning to buy PVC bathroom panels in Moscow, keep in mind that there are a lot of fakes on the market. Or use their counterparts based on chipboard and high-quality wood. The front surface of these elements is protected from moisture penetration with the help of veneer, PVC film, which skillfully imitates natural materials, and hardwoods are covered with special waterproof impregnations.

Types of plastic panels

How to choose PVC panels for the bathroom and toilet correctly? Professionals recommend using the following types of finishes to update bathrooms and other rooms with high humidity:

  • All-sheet PVC. Due to the impressive dimensions of the canvas, which is 1220x2440 mm, you can easily and quickly create the feeling of solid walls without seams or joints. These materials are able to solve any problems - an extensive range of colors and textures is suitable for implementing the most daring interior solutions.
  • Plastic panels in the form of a tile are able to help you with the "facing" of the bathroom for a modest fee. Indeed, due to their use, it will be possible to abandon labor-intensive “wet processes” with plaster walls or we level them with plasterboard sheets. Outwardly, the walls will not be easy to distinguish from tiles, in addition, many sizes (manufacturers produce them in the range from 30 cm to 1 meter), will allow you to choose the right solution for any room.
  • Rack panels or lining. They are considered one of the most common types of finishes of this class in Russia. The structures of them consist of prefabricated elements connected according to the “groove-comb” scheme. There are not so many materials with which you can finish the walls in the bathroom. As an alternative to tiles, only wallpaper, painting and wall panels can be opposed. It is the latter that will be discussed in this article, in which, together with the site vannaja.net, we will study the varieties of this material, its advantages and disadvantages, and deal with the question of how do-it-yourself bathroom wall panels are installed?

Bathroom wall panels: varieties

There are not many wall panels for the bathroom. Of all the variety of such material that the modern construction market offers, you can choose only two options for use in this room: these are plastic PVC panels and MDF wall panels for the bathroom.

  1. PVC wall panels for the bathroom - this material is known to many as "plastic panels", which are often used to make ceilings in the kitchen, toilet and bathroom. Such panels can be called budget option- they are relatively inexpensive, and in their own way technical specifications suitable for use in damp areas such as bathrooms. Among the advantages of this material are antistatic (do not attract dust), ease of cleaning and sufficient resistance to temperature extremes. As for the shortcomings, they include insufficiently attractive appearance and fragility. Sometimes, in order to damage the plastic wall panels for the bathroom, you don’t even have to make special efforts - it’s enough to lean on them carelessly, and a break is guaranteed.
  2. Wall panels in the bathroom from MDF. Despite the fact that this material is made from pressed wood dust, it is many times superior in its characteristics to plastic panels. Among the advantages of this material can be noted high resistance to moisture, increased strength characteristics, heat and sound insulation properties. In addition, some types of MDF wall panels can be given refractory properties by manufacturers. Also, waterproof bathroom wall panels made of MDF can be called an environmentally friendly material. If PVC is the purest product of chemistry, then MDF is natural wood, or rather, its sawdust, pressed under high pressure and temperature. Even for the connection of these sawdust, no modern polymer is used - they stick together thanks to the lignin released by the wood.

MDF wall panels for bathroom photo

Also, when studying the varieties of wall panels for the bathroom, you should pay attention to three options for their manufacture. As a rule, panels are produced either in the form of stacked rails, or in the form of stacked plates, or in the form of sheet material.

  1. Type-setting rack panels are produced with a thickness of 8 to 12mm, a length of 2.4 to 5.96m and a width of 12.5 to 40mm.
  2. Bathroom tile panels are manufactured in a very wide range of dimensions. As in the case of the previous material, its thickness can be from 8 to 12mm, and the length and height can vary greatly - there are no standards here. The most popular is the material with a side of 30 to 98mm. The advantage of these panels is that elements with different textures and colors can be quite easily combined with each other, which allows you to give the bathroom an individual look.
  3. Sheet panels have standard dimensions - as a rule, it is 1.22m by 2.44m. Such big sizes these panels provide quick installation. They are used for large bathrooms.

That, in principle, is all that can be said about the varieties of wall panels for the bathroom. As you can see, there are not so many of them. Nevertheless, their use in the interior of bathrooms provides a lot of advantages.

Benefits of using bathroom wall panels

Unlike ceramic tiling, renovating a bathroom with wall panels is a fairly advantageous option, and there are several explanations for this.

  1. Quick and easy installation. Installation of wall panels in the bathroom does not require preparatory work associated with leveling the base - the panels are mounted either on wood or on metal carcass.
  2. Ease of maintenance. Paneled walls have practically no joints - in fact, there is nowhere for dirt to clog and, as a result, all cleaning of these panels comes down to periodically wiping them with a damp cloth. In addition, all modern bathroom wall panels perfectly resist household chemicals. And that's not all - if for some reason one or more panels are damaged, they can always be replaced with new ones without resorting to global alterations.
  3. Profitability. If you compare the cost of this material and the prices for its installation, then finishing the bathroom with wall panels will cost you about half as much. It all depends on the type of panels used.
  4. Possibility to create a room original design. Installation of wall panels in the bathroom can be carried out in almost any direction - horizontally, vertically, diagonally and in a combined way, when several directions for mounting panels are used.

Finishing the bathroom with wall panels photo

Not to do without disadvantages. If we compare wall panels with tiles, we can distinguish the following.

  1. Despite the fact that in the process of manufacturing MDF panels, a special treatment is performed that increases the moisture resistance of this material, it is still far from ceramics - they cannot withstand prolonged exposure to one hundred percent humidity.
  2. If speak about plastic pvc panels, their strength leaves much to be desired.

Bathroom renovation with wall panels photo

In general, if we sum up all of the above, then we can draw only one correct conclusion - except for saving the budget, the use of bathroom panels does nothing. Better than tile, it's hard to come up with something for this room. You should not engage in imaginary cost savings, you should remember that a greedy person pays twice. Once for wall paneling, and the second time for wall tiling.

How to mount wall panels with your own hands: features of work

Well, in conclusion of the topic, a few words about the self-assembly of wall panels in the bathroom. Earlier it was said that the installation of wall panels in the bathroom is carried out on a pre-installed wooden or metal frame. This way of installing panels just gives some of the properties that people attribute to disadvantages - this is fragility. The void behind the panels causes them to break.

Do-it-yourself installation of wall panels in the bathroom

There is another way to install plastic and MDF panels in the bathroom, which reduces the risk of breaking this material through carelessness. The panels are simply glued to the walls. To carry out such an installation, the walls must first be leveled - ideally, in order not to reduce the room, it is better to plaster them. If the question of additional square centimeters is not worth it, then drywall can also be used, which is also better to install with glue.

Gluing any wall panels (both PVC and MDF) is carried out using liquid nails glue. At the same time, the technology of its use should be strictly observed, and then wall panels for the bathroom will serve you for many years.

PVC panels are universal construction material new generation, widely used for finishing works. The use of PVC panels for bathroom renovation deserves special attention.

With plastic, you can create stylish interior, which is not inferior to analogues from more expensive materials, while it is more budgetary and economical in terms of time and effort spent.

When it comes to decorating the walls of the bathroom, the first thing that comes to mind is this. However, its use is associated with significant costs and the need to involve a qualified and, accordingly, highly paid master.

In a situation where the budget for repairs is limited, they become a worthy alternative to tiles. They have a range of benefits.

The advantages of wall panels for the bathroom include:

  • fire resistance. This material is practically non-flammable. Even in the event of a fire, it has a unique self-extinguishing property;
  • durability when used in the bathroom, due to immunity to the influence of steam and water;
  • heat and sound insulation due to the presence of internal partitions;
  • affordable price;
  • ease and speed of installation, when compared with tiling bathroom walls;
  • ease of care;
  • safety, compliance with sanitary and hygienic standards;
  • convenience when working with rough surfaces. When laying ceramic tiles, you need to perfectly align the walls, while the frame method of installing PVC panels does not require such scrupulousness in preliminary surface preparation.

The optimal size of PVC wall panels for do-it-yourself bathroom cladding

Most often, PVC panels are used for wall cladding. They have the following linear dimensions: width 25-37 cm, length 260-300 cm, thickness 1 cm. These are the so-called "seamless" panels, mounted without back-to-back gaps. They do not have a connecting groove.

The advantage of this width compared to narrower counterparts is that fewer elements are needed for the same area.

For wall cladding in the bathroom, sheet PVC panels are used a little less often: width - 80-203 cm, length - 150-405 cm. The thickness of such wall panels ranges from 1 to 30 mm. A private version of small plastic panels is commonly called PVC plates. They are rectangular and square. The dimensions of such plates can vary from 30x30 to 98x98 cm.

Bathroom design

There are certain rules for creating stylish design bathroom. First of all, they relate to the choice of the type and color of PVC facing panels, based on the area of the bathroom.

Bathrooms lined with black PVC panels look very stylish. They can be glossy, matte or with contrasting bright patterns.

When using black PVC panels, you will need to make the lighting in the bathroom as bright as possible.

PVC decorative panels are best suited for wall cladding in a large bathroom. As an option, you can make the side walls of matte black panels, and make the main front wall a contrasting bright one or decorate it with a design panel with a predominance of red or white.

It is preferable to veneer small bathrooms with light glossy or mirror panels that visually enlarge the space.

To visually increase the space in the bathroom, install mirrors and additional lights.

Mounting Features

The bathroom is done in 2 main ways:

  • frame,
  • frameless.

The first method is most often used specifically for the bathroom. Let's take a closer look at why.

Benefits of frame mounting

The popularity of finishing bathrooms with a frame method is due to its advantages:

  • Absolutely flat surface of the walls due to well-executed markings and lathing with a frame. Not required .
  • Significant savings in heating costs due to the installation of insulation from the inside of the walls under the plastic panels.
  • Aesthetics, including due to the ability to hide all communications under the facing layer of the wall.
  • Possibility of mounting built-in light sources on the walls.

The nuances of installing panels in a frame way

There are a number of rules that must be followed in order to sheathe the bathroom with PVC panels:

  • the distance between the transverse laths of the crate is selected based on the parameters of the insulation sheet and the linear dimensions of the plastic elements;
  • the vapor barrier layer is attached to the racks of the crate with an overlap with a construction stapler after the frame is installed. A layer of insulation spreads on top of it. It is fixed with the help of plastic fungi, the frequency of which is at least 5 pcs. on the mat;
  • the insulation must not be stretched or deformed in any other way in order to avoid loss of thermal insulation properties;
  • before installation, PVC panels must be kept at room temperature for half an hour;
  • in the process of finishing the bathroom with PVC panels, it is not recommended to remove the protective film until the installation is completed, since it protects the surface from damage;
  • it is recommended to purchase panels immediately with a margin for trimming. Otherwise, there is a possibility of a shade mismatch, because different batches of the same color may have different shades;
  • PVC elements are cut face up with a hacksaw (using a blade pitch of 1 mm), a construction knife or a saw;
  • Installation of PVC panels is allowed only in those rooms, the average air temperature of which does not fall below 10°C. To compensate for temperature fluctuations during cladding, gaps are provided at the joints with the ceiling and floor of 3-5 mm;
  • on the walls where heated towel rails are located, it is imperative to install a screen that reflects heat.

Antifungal treatment

The frame method of facing the walls of the bathroom assumes the presence of free space under the PVC wall panels. And this is an ideal environment for the spread of microorganisms, which is additionally facilitated by the traditionally high humidity of the bathroom.

If the fungus appears on the walls after installation, then it will be possible to get rid of it only by completely dismantling the facing layer.

To avoid this, treat the wall with an antiseptic before installing the frame. After it dries, it is necessary to prime the walls.

The choice of material for the crate

The selection of material for the manufacture of the frame is given Special attention, since it is he who will create a plane for the subsequent facing of the bathroom. The most common frame materials are:

  • metal. Strong and durable material, but working with it is quite laborious,
  • wooden beam allows you to mount the panels on the walls quickly and easily. To extend the service life, it must first be treated several times with an antiseptic solution of deep penetration.

Special attention should be paid to fastening the frame to the wall. It is made using dowels. Moreover, the diameter of the self-tapping screw should be several mm larger than the diameter of the plastic pacifier.

Areas of additional frame reinforcement

There are areas on the walls that need additional crate along the perimeter with a frame. Subsequently, holes are drilled in them for attaching plastic panels. Let's list them:

  • electrical sockets,
  • lamps,
  • wall cabinets,
  • shelves,
  • mirrors.

The final stage of installing panels in the bathroom

After installing the plastic panels, it is necessary to treat the joints with silicone sealant to protect against moisture penetration. The sealant is selected transparent or the same color as the facing material.

At the same stage, holes are drilled for recessed spotlights and they are installed.

The final design of the outer and inner corners, joints and edges is carried out using plastic corners and moldings. Compensation gaps at the junction of panels with window and door openings are closed using skirting boards.

If the task is to make a high-quality modern renovation of the bathroom with a small budget, then PVC paneling is the best option. Given the requirements for installation and observing simple rules, you can achieve excellent results in the shortest possible time.

It is not always financially possible to finish the bathroom with tiles. But decorative panels PVC for the bathroom is the most affordable type of finishing material.

In addition to the low price, they have one very valuable advantage - to mount on the walls, especially after watching the video lesson, even a schoolboy can do it himself.

Advantages and disadvantages

All plastic panels are available in widths from 25 to 45 cm. Thickness 8-10mm. The length is from 2 to 3 m. Under the order, you can find strips 6 m long. And there is also PVC lining, 10 cm wide. Fastening one panel to another occurs according to the tenon-groove principle. For reinforcement, stiffening ribs are located in the thickness of each panel.

The price for this material starts from 120 r / m 2 for a domestic manufacturer and from 220 r / m 2 for European-made panels. But these are prices for single-color samples. Textured PVC panels will cost a little more. At the same time, the variety of textures that allow you to create a unique design is impressive (see photo).

The benefits are best presented as a list:

  • Low price.
  • Fast installation, including on the ceiling.
  • Variety of colors and textures.
  • Ease of maintenance.
  • Durability.
  • Fire safety.
  • Environmental Safety.
  • Immunity to high humidity and temperature extremes.

According to these parameters, no finishing material can compete with PVC wall panels.

The disadvantages of PVC panels are due only to an inattentive attitude to the choice of material by the buyer. The fact is that cheap panels often do not fit tightly to each other when docked, and a gap remains. In addition, cheap samples have a too thin surface layer through which stiffeners stand out.

From this follows the conclusion: Advantages of PVC panels are objective, and disadvantages are found only with a careless approach to choice.

Separately, it is worth mentioning the cost installation work. Decorators have a simple rule: the cost of labor is equal to the cost of material. This, of course, is very simplified, because in Moscow there will be an extra charge, and somewhere in a provincial town there will be a discount. But referring to this rule, you can approximately estimate the cost of repairs.

Methods for fixing PVC panels

Many people ask the question: "is it possible to glue the panels on the walls?". See answer below.

There are only two ways to install PVC panels:

  1. Frame (example in the photo below).
  2. Frameless.

Both methods have pros and cons. Let's deal with each separately.

  1. The frame mounting method is made on a crate made of timber or a metal profile, as in the photo. The advantages of this installation is that it does not require alignment of the walls. If the panel is damaged, it can be easily replaced. And in the under-panel space, you can hide communications, such as: wiring, pipes, ventilation. But here the volume of work, and the cost of the material grows significantly. After all, in addition to the metal crate, you will need a vapor barrier film. In some cases, the cost of the frame material will cost more than the finishing strips themselves. In addition, some space will be hidden from the volume of the room. The depth of the structure + the thickness of the panels add up to ≈ 5 cm. This means that if the work is done perfectly, the dimensions of the bathroom will decrease by 10 cm along each wall.
  2. Frameless method. With such a sheathing, PVC wall panels are attached directly to the wall. Depending on the material of the wall, this can be done:
  • Self-tapping screws with a press washer.
  • Construction staples.
  • Glue (photo below).

But this option is only possible if the bathroom has even walls. Ideal parameters are not required, and potholes will not be noticeable. But tubercles more than 2.5-3 mm are already a serious hindrance, they must be knocked down. But the work of leveling the walls for PVC panels is faster than the installation of the crate.

And most importantly, with a frameless method of mounting PVC wall panels, reliability and resistance to shock loads will be disproportionately higher.

There are some plastic selection secrets that you should pay close attention to before choosing a material.

  1. The number of stiffeners. In high-quality wall panels, the stiffening ribs are located at a distance less than 1 cm apart. For example, with a single lamella width of 25 cm, quality panel will contain 29 ribs, and the base one will contain only 20-22 ribs.
  2. The thickness of the front wall of PVC wall panels cannot be less than 1 mm. If the thickness is less, then stiffeners will clearly appear. And it is much easier to damage such material.
  3. Strictly sized. Be sure to join the two panels and pay attention to the presence / absence of a gap between them.
  4. The presence of deformations or scratches on the material itself. In the process of delivery, loading and unloading, workers can damage them. Your task is to reveal the marriage.
  5. Uniformity of the entire batch of material. Sometimes, the remnants of material from one batch are added to another. But with the same marking, the tone may differ slightly. For a more objective check, compare not two slats with each other, but 4-5.

As for the type of material, there can be various options: solid colors, multi-colored (example - gray mix) or with a pattern for tiles, marble, mosaic. In addition, there are 3D panels on sale that have a relief or with a frieze. Using various materials, you can bring to life the most interesting ideas.

Separately, it is worth talking about such material as seamless panels. They are PVC sheets with a width of 300 mm. Material with dimensions of 2400x1200x 3 2 is in great demand. The density of their joining is such that the seams are almost invisible, which allows you to get away from the "office" design.

If we talk about how much the material costs, then it is impossible to name an unambiguous price. For example, a sheet measuring 2700 × 375 mm (blue color) can be bought for 250 rubles. Although in different regions and stores the price will be different.

How to count the number of PVC panels

The calculation is extremely simple, but requires a scrupulous approach. First, you need to decide how the panels will be mounted, horizontally or vertically. With vertical installation, the length and width will visually increase, and with horizontal installation - the height of the room.

For clarity, let's calculate required amount panels when installed vertically in the bathroom with a size of 1.5 by 2.2 meters and a height of 2.4 m. At the same time, we will try to minimize the amount of waste.

One wall 1.5 meters long can be completely closed with 6 planks 25 cm wide or 5 panels 30 cm wide. If you purchase panels 40 cm wide, then there will already be trimmings. So, let's focus on PVC wall panels, 25 cm wide. This means that 6 + 6 = 12 panels will be required for two opposite walls. On a wall 2.2 m long, 2.2 / 0.25 \u003d 8.8 panels are required. We round up and multiply by 2, we get 18. The total number of 18 + 12 = 30 PVC wall panels will be required to finish a bathroom measuring 1.5 by 2.2 m.

When choosing a length, be guided by simple rule: The closer the panel length measures to the ceiling height, the less trimming. That is, in our case, it would be ideal to purchase panels with a length of 2.6 m.

Note that this calculation does not remove area. doorway. These panels (4-5 pieces) will be required in case of force majeure. After all, the lamella can be damaged during delivery, installation or during operation.

Finishing the bathroom with PVC panels

Of the two ways of fixing PVC wall panels, it is best to use the frameless method with adhesive fixation. For work you will need:

  • Roulette.
  • Rule 1 m long.
  • A hacksaw with a small tooth (a hacksaw will do).
  • Construction knife.
  • Pencil/marker.
  • Plumb.
  • Perforator and nozzle-brush for stripping walls.
  • Primer.
  • Glue.
  • Transparent silicone sealant.
  • PVC wall panels.
  • Plastic corner.
  • Dust mask.

A few tips for choosing.

The primer is necessary for better adhesion between the finishing material and the wall. And you need to choose it depending on the material of the wall.

Glue can be used specialized, from the manufacturer of the panels. But also thoroughly, the finishing elements will be fixed by Bustilat and even liquid nails. From personal experience: We recommend using Bustilat-D or Bustilat-Lux. The only negative of this glue is the drying speed. Under normal conditions, it cures within 24 hours, and gains full strength in a week.

The corners in the room can be closed with specialized corners, but they are unreasonably expensive, and it is very inconvenient to work with them without proper skill. And if you buy ordinary plastic corners, then they can be installed directly on top of the PVC panels. They will perform their function 100%, while facilitating the work and costing much less.

Secrets of the masters.

  1. Wall preparation.

Before laying the panels, clean the walls of everything that is left on them. Ideally, a bare concrete (brick or wood) surface should remain. Pay attention to the horizontal corners of the room. If there are roundings, then they must be removed with a perforator. Because they interfere with installation. When applying the rule, identify all the ledges, mark them with a marker, and then knock them down.

The last stage of preparation is to prime the walls. After the primer has dried, you can proceed with the installation.

  1. Installation of PVC wall panels.

Fastening must begin from the most noticeable angle. The first panel is cut to size, the back side is wiped of dust and glue is applied. Depending on the glue used, the gluing technology changes. If you listened to the advice and purchased Bustilat, then you need to apply it in an even layer 1-1.5 mm thick and press it against the wall. The peculiarity of fixing the first panel is that it sets the verticality of all other lamellas. Therefore, it must be installed with a plumb line and then be sure to fix it from above and below with self-tapping screws. Screw the self-tapping screw into the corner, between the wall and the floor (ceiling), at an angle of 45°. In doing so, you come across a joint, between the plates and you can do without dowels.

Then, the remaining sheet panels are glued. The very last panel on each wall needs to be adjusted in width. To do this, you need to take a measurement, and put it on the panel. Cut it along the entire length, most conveniently with a construction knife, along the attached ruler (rule).

IMPORTANT: Please note that the length of the wall near the ceiling, and near the floor, may differ by several centimeters.

After fitting, this lamella is glued into place.

The first panel on the next wall must be installed with plumb alignment and fixed with self-tapping screws at the top and bottom. Then, the algorithm of work is repeated.

After completing the installation, carefully inspect the work done, and if necessary, remove excess glue that may protrude at the joints between the panels.

If there are guide rails on the walls, plastic can also be mounted on self-tapping screws

Leave the bathroom for a day, and preferably restrict access to it. Let the glue gain the declared strength.

  1. Finishing work.

After a day, you can remove the fixing screws and stick the plastic corners. But, before that, process along the entire length, with silicone sealant, the corner joints between the lamellas. By the way, the corners can also be glued with the same silicone sealant.

Generalization

In general, if the house is new, then it will shrink within 2-3 years. Therefore, in a new house, it is more expedient to mount plain and simple wall PVC panels. Numerous reviews testify to this. Even if they are deformed, it will not be strongly manifested.

And one more nuance, in a new house, no matter how carefully and accurately you fit plastic panels (or other finishing material) to each other, they will definitely disperse or deform. It is impossible to eliminate the effect of shrinkage of the structure.
